Stayed at this hotel last year for Thanksgiving, just remembered how horrible it was...Here is my review. Upon check in, we found the clerk painting her toenails on the counter. We got the honeymoon suite, which we were excited about. The room was long, bed on one side and small heater on the other. The hot tub (heart shaped!!!) was slimy when we put water into it. The carpet was old and hard...the bed was old and saggy, the bathroom seemed to be falling apart. The hallway/bathroom door locks if it is pushed open and hits the wall with no way to unlock it if you are outside the bathroom area. When this happened I went to the front desk to get it taken care of, at which point I found the lights to be off and the doors locked...nice. After peeing outside, my wife suggested another hotel for the night. The next morning, I was refused a refund due to the fact that we "slept in the room", which was BS. So, $160 and a year or so later, here is my review.
We stopped there late on 11/16/12 we checked in and paid cash $80.00 for one of the river rooms. we took our bags in, I did not like the room it was cold and the bathroom was really outdated but thought we would give it a chance. We decided to go eat at Pauls resturant after eating I decided we would not stay. We went back but the man would not give our money back, but that was ok. He said they could not give money back, we left anyway without the money. Hotel got money for room never slept in we did not even sit down in that room. But I should have know not to stop there, there was only 3 cars in parking lot. So it was partly my fault, but it wont happen again. Helen is a town a lot of people go to so I will just pass the word not to stop here.....
We did not eat or stay at the Hofbrau. We only went for the entertainment at the bar, which included a heavy dose of Karaoke. The performers included some of the Susan Boyle surprise performers and some gosh darn I wish they would sit down and shut up embarrassment to all their family and friends types. I might have been in the first group, although judging by the laughter the next day, probably more the last group. We had a good time. The first drinks were not watered down, which if the last were, we couldn't tell it. Lucky for us, home was a short walk away.
My husband and I really enjoyed the food!
After reading other reviews of this hotel, I was not expecting the Holiday Inn. We were wanting atmosphere and quaintness and we got it. We have a room facing the river with a balcony and it is very peaceful. It is old and could use some painting but I wasn't looking to be pampered. We did not try the restaurant and the breakfast was store bought danishes and cereal. We just took our danishes for dessert later and went across the street to a diner. We have been here 3 nights and haven't moved our car. This hotel is convenient to all of Helen. We did have hot water so showers were no problem.
