The Mekka is the most unique cafe, with decor items from the Gold Rush days, in a arty style. The menu is posted on a brass bed frame, hung from the ceiling, and a tall iron gate stands against a wall, Victorian chairs and sofas among other interesting decor, books to read and a gallery of local art. A very relaxed friendly place with a lot of various drinks & snacks. Musical nights too.Seating also outside on the boardwalk.
My favorite coffee house in California -- hands down. The atmosphere, the great coffee drinks, the Gold Rush history, the eclectic music and vibe … topped off with very friendly baristas. Bravissimo!
Sure it's cool and funky and ecclectic, but it needs a REALLY GOOD CLEANING. Hear me, owners, please, please, time to clean. And I mean up to the rafters. Take a good look at the sticky, dusty cobwebs; the caked-on years-old grime...Ugh!
Best in town.
Excellent coffee, outstanding variety of loose teas, exceptional snacks and desserts, and all in a hip counter-culture atmosphere. It's a great place to meet for conversation or do some quick wifi computing. The only downside is the absence of heat in the winter--they need a couple of gaslog stoves for atmosphere and warmth. The rest of the year, it's fabulous.
