The Malibu Cafe

The grounds are roped off and have been for a long time. At least two months. I understood the fist time but the whole reason to go is to explore the grounds and play the fun outdoor games. The food is less than desirable but I come back again and again for the outdoor experience. If that's gone- what's left? Nada. Really disappointed.
I along with everyone within earshot had the worst service yesterday, Sunday, January 18th. I used to live in LA and had many positive experiences in the past, but when my boyfriend and I drove down from SB for an early brunch before LACMA we ran into one incident after the next. First, we were told there was an hour wait, so we reluctantly put our name on the list and waited up by the bar, mind you there were 4-5 tables free, and was told those were held for reservations- none of which were seated the entire time we were there. Two seats became available at the bar after we finished our first drink, so decided to stay. We sat in front of 2 bartenders, and I assume a manager type who wore a grey sweater with red elbow patches (not the shirts all others were wearing), who never acknowledged our presence, as well as ignoring two ladies waiting patiently for drinks and as we were having a conversation with a couple sitting next to us who said they are just leaving after arriving hours ago… While we watch grey sweater fumbling about, not knowing where anything was behind the bar, we had the wonderful opportunity to listen to one staff member pretty much tell the service bar (gray sweater) that he was basically a dart board for all 20 of his guest complaining of the drinks they had ordered who knows how long ago, and another staff member talking about getting "laid" last night. When we finally made a comment that we had been sitting there for 10 minutes, ready to order, and we'll have a bottle of wine, asked that it sit in front of us on the bar, not wanting to run the risk of waiting every time the bartender ignored our empty glasses, they acquiesced to our request with rolled eyes. French toast came- the wrong one, and my eggs benedict was more like over medium eggs with wilted, overcooked spinach, on non toasted english muffins and I guess their "hollandaise" that looked like a ramekin filled with mayonnaise. When asked how was it, I said the eggs aren't right, other bartender agreed, had it sent back, and the second came back with eggs and spinach just as overcooked. Eggs benny is a delicate thing to cook- if it's too busy for you to pay attention to the timing- take them off the menu. It's just something that isn't good if you mess it up. On top of the dreadful experience, we were forced to valet for $6… and the bathrooms were disgusting. It's unbelievable how a place that clearly does a lot of business wouldn't prepare for it with extra staff on the floor, or hire people who haven't a clue how to work efficiently in a restaurant, never mind verbalize their sex life in front of guests. This place has gone way downhill. Too bad, it once was a charming place to go.
BARELY ANYTHING IN THE MENU. TOO EXPENSIVE. TOO MANY BUGS. VERY SLOW STAFF. FORCED PAID VALET. CAN ONLY ORDER FROM THE BRUNCH MENU UNTIL 4 PM. TOO LONG WAIT. IDK WHY PEOPLE EVER COME HERE. -VERY MAD CUSTOMER
This is an amazing place, great ambiance and the food is very good with a few vegetarian options. Very unique.
I wish they had 10 stars! what a spectacular experience, we brought the kids the first time with the dogs, paddle boats, with a lifeguard, walking to see the cows.. Moo2 and Malimoo... and then back about a week later for the most romantic experience of our lives...dinner with our own private fire pit, full moon... there is nothing like this in America... we've been all over the world, its the best... impeccable service, although we heard a few whiners that said they couldn't get a server... it must big the biggest dining area, (acres) in all of California... you always find what you want.. the food, Michelin 5 star, not quite.. but dam good... its one of the sexiest dining experience and location we've been to world wide... no kidding that outstanding! P.S. take some time to learn about the amazing staff... Val, Roddy, and drop dead gorgeous Monica...you will be blown away.... I guarantee it!
