Kaenyama Restaurant

The worst service ever. Group of 20 that made reservations well in advance. Only sent 1 teppan chef to work 2 tables. Served 1/2 the group then when meal was finish served the other half. This was after 4 soups were delayed 20 minutes and then arrived cold with plastic spoons. Food was only mediocre. Will not go back.
Really great experience went with (out of the country) co-workers (they were from Germany) they enjoyed themselves and the food was excellent. We laugh, told stories and drank "American Beer" our colleagues will definitely come back again. Thank you to the staff and our Chef...
Too pretentious, I wouldn't put it on the top of East Bay choices for Japanese, not even. Not with outfits like Yoshi's or Sushi Kai around. Twice in a row I got real bad service at Kaenyamas and they weren't even understaffed those nights. I can always forgive a place once but twice, shame on me. Honestly I won't eat there again. In comparison Sen Dai as standard fare as they are is more than worth the wait in line.
My children are all born on May. We went here and they all enjoyed the food that is being cooked in front of them. As soon as we went in we were seated right away. My eldest daughter who do not like seafood actually ate shrimp. The cook was very friendly and entertaining. It's excellent.
Don't let the pretty waitresses and hosts get to you. This place is no better than Nijo and if I'm going to pay the money for Teppanyaki I expect the some decent service. First off our waiter showed no respect to my date or I (we are in our early 20s) despite our age I expect to be treated the same as everyone else in the damn restaurant. Our waiter never came by to ask if we would like any more rolls or anything. SHE DIDN'T EVEN COME BY TO REFILL OUR DRINKS!!! And we had to ask multiple times to get the check and even boxes. If you thought the waiters are horrible the Chef's are even worse our chef just like everyone in the damn restaurant showed no respect to us even though we were PAYING customers. He had his back to us the whole night talking with the other guests and when it came for us o get our food he just threw it on our plate and half of my food fell on the table. When I did get the chance to eat the food it was completely mediocre. The rice and meat were way too salty and he drenched the vegetables in teriyaki sauce. The seafood was overcooked to the extent that it was barely edible. Now this was my breaking point and when I complained to the manager he said that he was sorry for the horrible service but he offered NO type of compensation for our visit. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I would not recommend this place to anyone. A total waste of money.
