Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill

I've eaten here over the years and the quality of the food has gone down while the prices have gone up to expensive levels. $9 for a bowl of sweet potato chips with a small dip. Most people will be happy with the food though but it now relies too much on it's situation overlooking the beach, undeniably enviable. The wines are average and the beers decent but limited and no draft beer. Water from the tube/tap is not free. If you are going here take something warm if eating inside. I and others had to wear coats inside as they say they cannot alter the air conditioning. This was said to me after I complained about the cold, asking them to turn the air conditioning down. I asked them why they had air conditioning on at all when it was around 45 degrees outside. I was told it was an old building. I couldn't think of an answer to that. Don't expect much in the way of freebies. We had one cold roll between the two of us and no free water was offered. It could be that the water shortage brought that about. We didn't eat much there due to feeling uncomfortable but what we did have was merely OK. Not a great experience.
Went inside and expected an average restaurant and food from the looks of the place... but then they brought out the lamb!! Three chops of deliciously seasoned grilled lamb, mashed potatoes and nicely steamed vegetables, topped off with black and white cake for dessert. The lamb was the tastiest I have had since the mid-90s, kudos to the chef! The accompanying Zinfandel wine was a decent/okay match. Good way to end a day stopping over to visit Hearst Castle the next day. Went here on evening of October 20, 2013.
Wonderful environment. The patio has a wonderful view of the ocean. They give you blankets for when it's chilly. The food was delicious. The wine was not overpriced. They didn't rush you. Would definitely go again.
Friendly service and excellent food right on the beach front at Moonstone Beach. We went for a light lunch in the late-afternoon and enjoyed one of the best burgers and veggie sandwiches we've ever had. Great place to sit back, settle in, and enjoy cocktails as the sun sets.
Fresh sea bass and scallops were phenomenal. Service outstanding. Manager even came around to every table and introduced himself and asked how everything was. That doesn't happen at many establishments nowadays. Very enjoyable dinner with an amazing view.
