AJ's OldTown Steakhouse & Tavern

Delightful restaurant in Homer. This restaurant has friendly staff and good food. Overall, this small town restaurant would rival any restaurant in a metropolitan area. Thankfully, the kitchen was still open when I arrived at nearly 10 p.m. My choice for entree was the bay scallop dinner. The scallops were great, grilled on one side and overall not overly cooked. The sides included green beans and potatoes. The dish overall was good.

Me and my family loved this place. It had great music, and amazing food. The service was suburb, our waitress actually learned our names when she took our order. All in all if your looking for some good food I recommend AJ's.

My husband and I are recently retired and visiting Alaska from California.. We asked around Homer for a good place to have dinner and were told to try AJ's. No idea why it was recommended. When we walked in the door a server said hi but nothing else. We stood akwardly for a minute, not sure what to do. The restaurant wasn't very busy (now I know why!) and she could have told us to have a seat wherever we like and someone would be right with us. Instead we got a lukewarm hello and nothing else. We assumed we were to wait to be seated, but that never happened. So we left. I fail to understand why it is so hard in businesses today to simply treat people as if you actually want them in your business. If she was busy and couldn't get right to us, that was fine...but tell us what you want us to do. This isn't a five star restaurant, it's a bar, which is just fine with us...some of our best experiences have been with bar food. So asking us to wait to be seated when we should be able to seat ourselves in a pretty empty place and be waited on promptly is absurd. I felt foolish and out of place. I cannot speak to the quality of the food as we never got to try it! For a town so "pro-tourist" we definitely received a very cold shoulder. We had dinner at a lovely place up the road and were treated like family.

Some of the best seafood we have had in Alaska. Halibut and salmon were moist and cooked perfectly. Service was great. Don't miss it!

Very good and well prepared meat, the asparagus side, on the dish I had, was not over done or cooked as an afterthought but well prepared. I went in the winter when it had a very local appeal to it, not some place that is just thrown up quick in the summer to make a buck off of tourists. For what I ordered I would say it is quite reasonably priced...would pay a lot more in Anchorage for very mass produced type food, this was not. Nice place.
