Gad's Hill Place

Charming little place. I had a Scrooge Burger, mushrooms a couple of pieces of red pepper in a cheap bread bun. It was awful. I ate the insides which were 3 bites - for $l3. plus. I told the waitress that the food was the pits. She asked me if I wanted her to mention it to the cook, I said yes. He said he would give me a free desert. Not good enough! My husband had a regular burger which he said was good enough. However, all that was on the plate with it was some store bought potato salad which was awful. Again for $l3. plus. For a mostly awful lunch the bill was over 33 dollars. Never again! Overpriced for poor food.

The outdoor patio looked nice when we sat down. I ordered the Rueben sandwich, but it only came with one piece of bread. Ann ordered the warm salmon on a bed of spinach. It came with a nice presentation of mandarin oranges and strawberries adorning the outer rim of the plate. Some of the strawberries were rotten and when paying I asked politely if there was a discount for sub-standard fare. The waitress got the owner who came out fuming because I had asked about a discount. I politely paid the bill but refuse to ever frequent that establishment again. The owner was rude and not a nice person at all. The food was sub-standard and very pricey for what you receive. Not a good experience for a first time visit to Merrickville.

At first blush, a charming place. The table hadn't been properly wiped, the milk jug for our coffee had a nasty skin of milk on top and there was a hair in my daughter's pizza. We also found it somewhat pricey for what we had. But it is a tourism area and one expects that.

Great atmosphere , especially in the pub. The food was also excellent.

Loved the old world charm in this Dickens theme restaurant and pub! I always love the prime rib, but also have never had a bad meal here! Great menu, great food and a great staff, one of my favourites!
