Lock 17 Bistro

First experience was horrible. Meat burnt, literally black, and was served anyway. Glasses sat empty for half hour at a time. Waitress took our order for app. and left without asking the couple we were with if they wanted anything! Yikes. App was cold when it arrived anyway. Second time (had to give it a chance, as could have been a fluke) Meal was good and service was better. Meal was properly cooked and the waitress was a little more on the ball. Food was nothing to rave about but was a nice patio experience by the river.
Oh My, What a disappointment! Every Saturday night we are joined by another couple and travel to different restaurants in the area... that being from Kingston, to Ottawa, Merrickville, Smiths Falls, Kemptville, Brockville, Ogdensburg and Watertown . We have hit some good ones and some not so good.... Lock 17 would fit into the later category. Two people had "Scottish Fish and Chips." Each $12.99 and each came with almost burnt batter and over cooked fries. They each had glasses of ginger ale $2.15/glass with an additional $2.15 for refills. Another person had "Tetrazzini" @ $17.99 which came with 3 very small pieces of extremely hard garlic bread and very little sauce and dried out grilled chicken. Glass of water came without ice. And coffee. The fourth person had chicken tenders with fries which came over cooked and tea (which staff never offered to bring more hot water or offer another cup of coffee to the person having coffee). Total bill for 4 people - $74.18 + $8.00 tip= $82.18. We don't mind paying for good food and good service but Lock 17 gave us neither! Ask me about The Old English Pub in Ganaoque - 2 BIG pieces of fish and chips and drinks with refills for 2 people Total=$26.00 The place was full with people lined up to get in- maybe you should check it out!!
A bunch of co-workers went here after work.. As other reviewer states.. fast, friendly service. Food was judged very highly, my Blackened burger was enormous, but very tasty. I liked the mini deepfried onion slivers. Was surprised a bit, as it is set up like a pub/bar the number of people who brought children. On the far side, it appeared there was a b-day party going on for 5-6 year olds. Nice little gem in the middle of nowhere... I hope they advertise a bit more and can stay open through the long winter months of no boat traffic.
we eat there a couple of times a month and we prefer Friday nights because dinner is followed by a fun night of karaoke! We find the food excellent and the service up to par, as the restaurant is not too large to manage, even when it's packed to the rafters on a weekend party night. It's good for families in the earlier hours of the evening, and perfect for a girls' night out til closing! If you see a negative review here, it's likely from a competitor.
Lock 17 burger is the best thing that will touch your tongue!
