Hilton Sydney

My husband and I stayed here recently and had a lovely time. The room was very clean, modern and well maintained. The service we experienced was exceptional especially for an Aussie hotel. We received complimentary breakfast both mornings of our stay- no idea why but it was appreciated. Breakfast in Glass was a real treat, one of the best breakfasts I've had at a hotel with a wide selection of choice and all the food was very fresh. We enjoyed using the gym and pool too. We'd love an excuse to stay again.
We had an incredible time. Service is acceptable. Rooms are clean and nice. Views were good. Was a Wotif mystery hotel: 45% off.
Rooms are small. Also took a $300 deposit, which they have not returned yet 4 working days later. I'm surprised when they settle the bill at check out they don't deduct the deposit from the remainder of the bill, but instead charge you again the room cost, which in my case was $200. So then you have paid out $500. Very convenient for there cash flow I'm sure.
Hotel rooms are nice. Service is shocking. I'm staying there currently and ive tried to get a hold of reception and the concierge numerous times over the last hour and no one is answering. The worst part is that its a rather urgent matter. Will not be booking the Hilton again. The 2nd star is only because the room and location are excellent.
I cannot understand how it has a 5 star rating as I have stayed in 3 Star hotels with better rooms and much better service. Even though I live in the awesome city of Sydney, I found myself spending the entire weekend at the Sydney Hilton as my company was exhibiting at an event and I needed the proximity. The good news is that I am not out of pocket as my business paid, so at least the Fawlty Towers experience I became part of cost me nothing. The bad news is that I was really looking forward to experiencing the legendary luxury and service, and got none of it. The two positive experiences I had were at reception. Both at check in and check out the staff there were really helpful and a pleasure to deal with, unfortunately they were the only ones who seemed engaged in the process of serving. Rather than bore you with page after page of reasons for this 1 star rating, I will keep it simple and bullet point the main reasons: 1. The carpet in my room was dirty, the shower had a leak that meant water was spraying in my face while I showered, there are no spare blankets or Dona's in the rooms and they don't come with a box of tissues, an essential I would have packed had I known. 2. In room coffee and tea are cheap brands, and come with UHT full cream milk. If you want fresh milk it costs you $8 as it's a menu item. 3. There are only basic free to air Sydney channels available to view. If you want a broader range you have pay as it's a menu item. 4. The bathroom is so small that I could not dry or straighten my hair without hitting my elbows on the walls, unless I turned side on and didn't use a mirror. For this reason I could not use it to do my make up. When you are hosting a work event this is a major inconvenience. 5. The staff at Glass Brasserie were unhelpful, to the point where they would walk away while you were asking them a question. As I was pushed for time, I ended up having 2 coffees (both of which are not included in buffet breakfast and therefore cost me $5 a cup) and leaving. 6. The server at the ground floor cafe stopped serving me twice to take calls on her mobile phone. She also did it to the people in the queue ahead of me. They may well have been important calls but as she offered no explanation and no apology we will never know. 7. After our second round of drinks at the Zeta bar the waitress spoke to my friends and I and told us that while we were welcome to order more drinks we were required to settle our current bill as "my manager is really hassling me that you haven't paid yet". Although the 7 of us had intended to spend a few hours relaxing after our event, that brought the night to an abrupt end for us. Needless to say the two of staying at the hotel that night went elsewhere for dinner as we had had our fill of Hilton 'hospitality'. The sad thing about this is that this entire let down of a weekend stay cost my business over $1,000, a lot of money for very little in return. Never Going Back Again!
