This is the local for most of us who work at Opera Australia just up the road. Don't get me wrong this is still a working man's pub but that's what we love it as it is so cheap and cheerful. Downstairs retains this old decor while upstairs there is a great open terrace. The beers and drinks are a good price and so is the pub grub. Pretty standard pub fare, but rather yummy none the less. In short:Good cheap beers and pub grub, love the roof terrace.
If you are in Surry and looking for a relaxed atmosphere head upstairs to the Strawberry Hills rooftop/outdoor bar area. It's the perfect balance between pub and something a little more. Good quality pub food. It can be hard to get a spot if you come later on in the arvo as the sun is setting and people start getting that hungry feeling. So if you get a spot sit down and get comfy :)
Positively disgusting place. I drank a couple of drinks during the night (I'd say four). As a heavyweight, this is normal. My friend supervised every single drink I drank, and watched the bartender pour every single one - except for the only cocktail of the night I had, where they told me they'd bring it to my table (none of my 11 friends were told this, they all got their drinks right after ordering, and when I ordered, they had no line at all). I drank it, and about 30 minutes later, I blacked out and got sent to hospital. I will never ever ever go here again, the upstairs bar staff were absolutely horrendous with their attitude, my statements were dismissed, and then I got sick.
Great bar, good cocktails and amazing prosecco (italian wine). The atmosphere is good, especially on the terrace upstairs even though it can be a bit noisy on fridays/saturdays.
what a disgusting venue!! The staff are rude and arrogant. If only i could rate this place a zero, i would... disgusting and disgraceful customer service!!! Please if your thinking of going to this place, reconsider!! At least the security is nice. Never again!!! The Bar tender is an absolute disgrace, rude and arrogant! Do not go here for anything. I am not one to write reviews but this place just topped the cake last night. Awful, horrid place to go to.
