Cask & Schooner Public House & Restaurant
Reviews
Me and my husband decided to have a day out in the San Juan Islands on our honeymoon that ended up being the worst day ever because of this restaurant. The service was great, got in quick ordered our food and then it came out equally fast. This in and of it self should of been a sign to us that the food was bad. We ate a few bites of overcooked sausage (extremely dry) and some clam chowder both were awful. We quickly got the check and left as fast as we could. Also my husband went to the bathroom and saw the cook go to the bathroom and not even wash his hands after (disgusting). We spent the rest of our day out at Friday Harbor sick to the stomach. Just an honest warning from a fellow tourist DO NOT EAT HERE.
Burger tasted a little off my wife's clam chowder was thin and runny. The best thing we ate was the fish and chips
It's amazing how the customer service can quickly begin to ruin an experience. After being told as to why what's on tap isn't on the menu due to rotation. I felt like I was being chastised and the drinks were being yelled at me. I felt obligated to go to the bar to get a better look. I had salmon while there and did my best to avoid all of the fried food on the menu without breaking the bank. My salmon was presented well, roasted chicken not so much. I would not recommend this conveniently located restaurant.
The service was mediocre at best. Our waitress was horribly inattentive. The homemade ginger ale was good, and the homemade lemonade was also good, but they don't tell you that your $3, 8 ounce lemonade (which was mostly ice) is not eligible for refills. The small plates we ordered were actually quite good. The char grilled squid and the kale and chickpeas were both delicious. But the entrees were awful. My wife and I both ordered the fish & chips. The fish was extremely greasy and bland. The batter was way too thick, holding all that grease in. I would definitely never eat here again.
The food was Ok, nothing special. The service was Ok, again nothing special. The complaint I have is that we were not told the following:- 1. We ordered root beers for our children, when we were asked if we would like refills we accepted. What we were not told was that the drinks were $3 each and the same for a refill!. 2. We were a party of eight we asked for the bill to be split into two, one for three and the other was for five people. we were both charged a 20% surcharge on both bills for a "large party", and also a 20% service charge. So a $40 bill rose to $60. A lot of places on San Juan do charge more for their services, this restaurant took that to the limit. I would not recommend this restaurant until they are more open about their hidden charges.
