Black Bear Bistro

Concept is good. But service and attitude of staff very bad. No one cares or seems not empowered to care. Pizza should be hot when the customers receives it. Not cold. I think it could be a great place but I have had too many bad experiences.
I really wanted to give this a 5 star review. We drove out to the Brick from Gainesville to have some yummy pizza in a cozy environment since I had been to the Black Bear Bistro before and had a great time.. Unfortunately the terrible service pretty much ruined the experience for me. We got there around 2PM after the last few remaining lunch rush guests were finishing up and leaving. There were 2 other tables seated and one of them left about 10 minutes after we had sat down. When we finally got a waitress, the young girl didn't introduce herself or go over any specials, I had to come out and ask her questions to kickstart the intros. We ordered an appetizer and 2 6 inch pizzas. After we had ordered we heard her murmuring something to the kid making the pizzas about our order. She hadn't mentioned anything to me so I thought maybe she was just discussing the order. After I had ordered I noticed the sign across the bar that said "salad and 6" pizza for $8.95" had I known about this when I sat down I definitely would have ordered that. About 10 minutes after we were done eating, she came around asking if we wanted refills, I said no, just the check. At this point, the couple that had sat down (bringing the total number of patrons to 3) were already getting their things together and leaving. Another 10 minutes after I had asked for the check, she came back with it. I then noticed the bill was over $50 because she charged me for 2 12" pizzas. Well I sat there for another 10 minutes waiting for her to come back so I could tell her about this. When I did, it's like she already knew and was just hoping I wouldn't notice. She took the check away and came back AGAIN another 10 minutes after taking it and we were finally able to leave. The other waitress, a lovely seeming blonde lady was already done cleaning off the table and organizing the dining room when we were leaving and offered me a very friendly "thank you, have a great day!" When we turned the corner to leave our waitress was sitting slunched over the bar on her phone waiting the last couple minutes until her 3:30PM shift was up (as I overheard her mentioning earlier). I was now finally under the understanding that she was going back and forth between our table and sitting at the bar texting and thus why we had terrible, long, inattentive service. Sadly, I will not be back here and I will not recommend it to any friends.
The food, service, and atmosphere was wonderful. I would recommend this place to anyone passing through or staying. If available, I recommend the goat cheese and cauliflower soup, very good with cornbread.
Excellent food, poor service. Tried to send this email on their site and it was rejected. Enjoyed a wonderful Oyster Po Boy sandwich but have to let you know I am unhappy about the wait. 45 Minutes from seated to being served. I know you had a 30 person party but this is still an unpleasant experience. My friend and I have made a pact to eat there once a week and of the 3 times we've eaten there, 2 times had terribly long waiting times (over 30 minutes). 2 guys may not be worth as much as one 30 person table but recurring visitors have some value. We only have an hour for lunch. Thought you may like to know.
Service was terrible, took an hour to get our lunch sandwiches. Maybe it was a bad day for them but I won't go back after this experience. Atmosphere was unique and interesting.
