MAC AND BOB'S
Reviews
First the good - they have a great beer selection. Highly recommend this place for some drinks. Now the bad - the food is just Ok. We had the Kentucky Bourbon Steak and the Greek Salad. The steak was flavorless, but cooked well. The salad was good. The food prices were disproportionate to the quality of food. The menu was huge - probably too big. It's hard to create really good dishes when you have a huge menu. We'd go back for drinks but we'd get food elsewhere.
Ordered take out from a near by hotel. We ordered fried mushrooms, Katie salad and a piece of ultimate chocolate cake. It was ready on time, the staff were very nice and helpful, and the food was great, especially the Katie salad! Only suggestion I would make would be to offer other selections as a sauce for the mushroom appetizers, like Honey Mustard or Ranch. Other than that the meal was great! I would definitely recommend Mac and Bob's to anyone!
We go here often! Calzones are the best EVER! The dough is always cooked perfectly. I don't know how they do it. It is so soft and buttery on the outside with just enough crunch as you bite into it. The inside is soft and warm, like a yeast roll. We've always had great service. We're not into sports, but sitting in the bar area is great because the decor isn't IN YOUR FACE with sports like some other places. Love the outdoor seating area!
My husband and I were the first people to eat out on the patio on a Friday night. We were constantly overlooked by waiters. It took a while to order. My Veggie Panini was missing the chipotle ranch sauce that was supposed to be on it. When I asked our waiter about it, he only brought ranch salad dressing to me that was too runny for a sandwich. The sandwich was also bland, not what I expected for a panini. My husbands calzone was ok (kind of bland). It was a large portion though. The waiter hardly came by during our meal. Several couples that came in after us left before us. The decor is nice. Eating outside was lovely. I think the waiters/waitresses are being stretched thin by being assigned tables inside and outside. I don't plan on returning.
Attending an event at the Civic Center and wanted to eat in Salem. This is not the place!. While our waiter was apologetic, we got appetizers but not the entree's until over 35 minutes later. Diners came in after us, got their food, eat and left. Ok, so how was the food? Average at best; calamari was dry, tough, and over cooked. The Cod sandwich ("lightly seasoned") was over-seasoned with a salty Old Bay type seasoning that really detracted from the taste of the fish. The meatballs (with spaghetti) were blobs of flavorless hamburg (thought pasta would be a good choice because of the NY influence of the owners). Didn't get any bread with the pasta dish (had to ask for it, it was "forgotten"). The salads were fine as was the wine. How did this place get "Best of Salem" for several years in a row?????
