Montano's International Restaurant
Reviews

I can't believe how highly rated this restaurant is. I suppose I just had a bad experience, but it was pretty bad. The menu was overwhelming and had way too many items. I felt pressured and ordered a chicken quesadilla - thinking I was playing it safe. It was the worst quesadilla I've ever had (seriously). Lacked taste, had liquids running out of it, just gross. I don't plan to ever make the trip back to Montano's in the future.

Actually, I would give this a 2.5 but no halves. Here is the problem with this nice restaurant. First, menu is much too large, which should tell one and all that the restaurant can not cook all the different cuisines, from various nations fresh, which they do not do. Most of the food (actually all) tastes like it comes frozen, canned or over cooked. The pasta was very pasty and tasteless. The sauces tasted canned and very bland. Meat and seafood was overcooked. Ribs fell of the bone, which there should be a slight tug, but worst yet the sauce was from a bottle, no taste, fire or otherwise, and as for the coleslaw...., stay away unless you like salty, watery slaw with too much celery seed. The worst slaw I've ever had. But even more appalling was the olive oil dipping for bread. As an Italian and a chef the oil was embarrassing. I would guess it to be a mix of olive oil with vegetable oil or a very light olive oil. Light and very flavorless, despite they add herbs to the oil. Their menu obviously appeals with those of taste buds that do not like true authentic cuisine that is full of flavor and spice. That my dear is what I-Hop and Denny's is for, so go there and do not waste your time and money on fake cuisine; because it is NOT. Now, for the up side, the bartender knows how to mix drinks. One of the best when one wants a martini. Ask for something fru-fru, then you are either too young or not man enough to handle a true cocktail. And the dessert menu is to die for, but don't be fooled, this restaurant does NOT make their desserts either. Nevertheless, go for the custard and SHARE!!! Too rich for one to eat alone.

I am a Roanoke native who always hears how great Montano's is. My wife and I have eaten there several times over the years, and never been completely satisfied. We tried one Last time yesterday. My ' oyster po boy' was great if you like lettuce tomato and bread. Her fish tacos were exactly the same...little to no meat. For a restaurant that is renowned for it's sandwiches, it is sad. The service is usually good, and the atmosphere can be nice. That being said, we will not be returning to Montano's.

Absolutely delicious food. One of my favorite places to dine in Roanoke.

What a great restaurant.... excellent service food is prepared perfectly and the jazz band is a pleasant bonus.... our server was very attentive and the mgr Marion made sure we were satisfied... we will return often and tell our friends about this wonderful find...
