Debbie's Kitchen

A bit disappointed in this restaurant. We have been here 3 times and I always thought "maybe if I order something else" it might taste better. Extremely small servings for what you are paying for. Food is very bland. The vegetables are canned, but not even seasoned. Just plain vegetables in canned water. The last time we went was for Easter were my husband ordered the Easter ham special. He received 2 paper thin slices of ham and about 3 tablespoons of mashed potatoes and small bowl of fried apples for $14--Needless to say he left still hungry. However we had the fried chicken one time and that was pretty good.
Been going here on and off for years. The last time we went, we said never again, however on Sunday we wanted something different and thought lets give debbie's one more try. It hasn't changed one bit....our service was no different than the last three times we ate there. I'm not going to knock the food.....even tho mine was luke warm and cold around the edges, my rant is going to be about the service and has-been waitresses that work here. They take your order, serve your drinks and food with the TICKET in hand, if your lucky you MAY and I say MAY get them to stop by and see if you need a refill or anything else. She stopped by once and asked if we needed a refill and i said yes. She asked if it was Sweet Tea and as she bolted away I said no "UNSWEET", guess what I received. SWEET. No big deal. We decided we wanted dessert. 15 minutes goes, we never even caught a glimpse of our waitress(we thought she left). Finally we seen her come thru the banquet room and back to the kitchen and then we seen her in the parking lot at her car after that we never caught a glance of her until we were getting in our car and she was cleaning our table and looking out the window at us, probably wondering why her tip was so low. But I still think she was clueless. After thinking about it I should have left her a real good message and left her nothing. Another waitress did ask us if we wanted our tea's refilled and we said yes and we would like to order dessert also. She replied ok, i will be right back and take your order, 5 minutes later she was standing by the register looking out over the dining room as if to see if anyone needed anything else and at that point I had enough and we decide to pay and leave. The second waitress is the one who checked us out, still clueless to fact that see didn't come back and fill our tea's or take our order. We were totally forgotten(and this is not the first time we have had this to happen at this restaurant) and as one other reviewer pointed out, the waitresses do like to sit down at tables and chat with the locals and that is a standard we have seen since the first visit here. There is nothing wrong with that if all your customers are taken care of, but the waitressing skills are sub par at best at this establishment and do NOT have the talent nor capability to be able to wait on tables and hold conversation with the locals and give good customer service to all their tables. I don't even understand why the owner lets this go on and she witnesses them sitting at tables. When they are sitting at tables for 5 - 10 minutes talking to locals, your other customers are not being attended too. Wake up, you are losing business! You just lost ours! And you just lost some of our other family members business who also eat there (and they have similar stories). F.Y. I. NEVER will i step foot in your establishment again! That's a promise!
Terrible food, terrible waitresses. Don't eat here for the life of you.
The place was interesting the waitresses like to hang with the locals, not overly friendly... Food was OK, but not southern homemade/FRESH instant potatoes and canned green beans not my cup-o-tea. I travel the entire region working as a PC Technician so I like to try these MOM & POP places, this is one i can definitely say i will pass on in the future. Not too mention when i told the staff their website wasn't working they very arrogantly shrugged it off with an I don't care type of attitude, so that's my formal opinion... I DON'T CARE!
You can usually find my family and I every weekend morning having breakfast at Debbie's Kitchen. we haven't had a bad meal since we started going a few years back. The pancakes are the best around IMO and so is there sausage gravy. My dad comes up to visit from Lynchburg and sometimes I can't tell if he comes up to see his family or just to have breakfast at Debbie's. I highly recommend breakfast at Debbie's Kitchen to anyone that enjoys a delicious, hardy breaksfast. Debbie's is also open or lunch and dinner and while I haven't eaten there for either of those meals I would guess they are probably excellent also.
