Tara Temple Restaurant

One of the worst Thai restaurants I have eaten in. Crispy basil chicken was bordering on some type of jerky and so salty.. Multiple cooks must have salted it. Crab fried rice tasted exactly like what i get from a cheap Chinese carry out. Restaurant had a strong clorox odor, kinda reminds you of a college bar in that respect and the rest of it is falling apart. Looks like some handy man built it to the taste of a 19 year old girl, cheap and flashy. Sushi wasn't that bad, kinda on par with most places that serve sushi as a secondary menu. And almost forgot, the beer list is terrible even for the thai beers i like.. One option singha.
I really wanted to love this place because I think they're really set up for success with their menu. Full disclosure I've only been here for delivery, so that may have affected the quality of the food when it arrived. I ordered the duck roti spring roll and I really liked the composition of the ingredients inside. There was a good amount of duck and the portion was large so I felt like it could have been great. I wasn't in love with the wrapper though- it was very thick and not exactly crispy. I'm not sure if it was because of the delivery but it took away from what could have been great. I also had the crab fried rice and wanted to love it too, but it was just missing some element of flavor. The pros: there was plenty of crab in it and it was great quality, so I appreciated that. However beyond that there just wasn't a ton of flavor. It needed some more salt and crunchiness and a little sweetness to compliment the crab. Maybe some cashews and pineapple? It wasn't bad, I just felt like it has potential to be a lot better. I would like to give this place another chance for sure, especially because I've heard the sushi is great and they have good happy hours. Will definitely give it another shot!
Great food! Great service! Love it!!!
I visted Tara Temple the other day to see an old friend. I enjoyed the fresh atmosphere and friendly service. I was especially happy they had Hendrick Gin; my favorite. Shine, suggested that I travel a bit out of my comfort zone and try the grilled spicy squid; I did and marveled at how good it was. Squid is a delicacy in Thailand and I was happy I gave it a try. For a conveniently located Thai resturant in the heart of Balston, I recommend stopping by Tara Temple. Cheers! Mark
We recently had dinner at Tara Temple. We ordered sushi ( a lot of sushi) and a Thai dish - Crispy Talipia Basil. The sushi was fresh and well prepared. It was a colorful presentation with burts of complimentary flavors. The restauant was crowded but the service was still outstanding. The server anticipated our needs and frequently stopped by our table to enrich our dining experience. After dinner, we sat at the bar and continued to enjoy the Asian decor and extensive drink menu.
