Waco Mammoth Site
Reviews
Thoroughly enjoyed visiting the mammoth site. Would highly recommend joining the guided tour which is included in the price. There is so much information given and questions are welcomed. Could really feel our guide's passion for this endeavor. Wish we could participate in the dig too.
I saw dinasor bones it was fun I took a toor it was so fun hope u did to.
This place is absolutely fascinating and a fantastic place to visit if you have even the remotest interest in archaeology. They have guided tours of the site every half hour. There is a 2-300 yard walk from the ticket office/shop down to the actual site which is in a climate controlled warehouse type building with raised walkways so you can look down on all the remains but you can't actually go down amongst the remains although flash photography is fine. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly and welcoming of questions. Definitely check this place out if you get the chance.
The location is a little out of the way, but it isn't too bad. It doesn't have very much except for a small shop/office/bathroom area and an indoor warehouse to protect the current dig site. The tour guide offered plenty of history and information about the mammoths, but it would be nice to have more interactive experiences there or something for the little ones to keep their interest up. Overall, I would recommend this to friends and family.
This is a fantastic spot. It's great to see all the bones in one place: I never pictured mammoths and camels hanging out en masse before! They give a great tour and you can't help getting drawn into the mystery of how exactly these animals perished. Well worth a visit.
