Goodson's Cafe

My sister suggested that we have lunch at this place since the parking lot is always full of customers. We waited over 40 minutes to get seated because we were a party of 11 (7 adults and 4 kids). Once seated, it was freezing since we were seated right under their a/c duct and fan. We asked if they can adjust the a/c. They did attempt, but, it was still freezing. Once our food arrived, it was immediately cooled off because of the a/c. As for the taste, I was extremely disappointed as I ordered their famous and well known signature dish, the "chicken fried steak". It was dull, difficult to cut through and you can only taste the flour it was dipped in before frying. What a HUGE waste of time. Long wait, horrible food and atmosphere sucks!!!!!! At least our waitress was nice. I do not recommend this place unless you want low quality food and you may also want to bring a jacket just in case you get seated under their a/c duct. Hopefully you get a better experience than we did.
Prices have recently increased, but are still reasonable. Service has always been very friendly, and extremely attentive. Great food in general, but I strongly recommend the World's Best Double Bacon Cheeseburger! I am very picky about steaks and burgers, but Goodson's has never disappointed me.
Do you like Chicken Fried Chicken or Chicken Fried Steak? This is one of the best places in the area! Some say best in the state, but I'll leave that to you ... Don't pass it up, there is a friendly staff, good country food and great desserts waiting. Sometimes there is a line waiting. It's not usually that bad, and worth the wait.
I haven't been to Goodson's in awhile and decided to try it since I was in the area. They've added a few things to the menu, but they still have their standard country cooking dishes most notably the HUGE chicken fried steak. We started with the fried pickles. They were really crunchy, but had too much crust. Also the pickles weren't as vinegary as I like them. They just didn't have the punch they needed. I opted for the chicken fried chicken instead of the CFS. Again there seemed to be too much crust and the chicken was pounded so thin it was almost non-existent. They do make tasty rolls. However, you only get one per person and they didn't seem to be as big as I remember.
The chicken fried steak was good not sure its the best in the state. The squash and green beans were good too. The service was great, would go back.
