I'm sorry. I just can't give this place a good review. The enchiladas had a sauce that tasted like it was a taco seasoning mix. The service was really bad. Getting stale chips to go with the stale salsa felt like it was twisting an arm. Apparently a request for "no meat" turned into "no cheese" on a quesadilla. And yet... the place apparently has regulars that keep on coming. Perhaps this is reason for me to temper my big city Tex-Mex elitism. Perhaps the problems I see reflect less upon the restaurant, and more the appetites of the town regulars who keep on going. Someone should conduct a study. Someone who is not me.
You have got to be kidding me!! How is anyone giving this place more than 1 star? **This is an honest review from a nice person** This is probably the worst restaurant I've ever been to. First of all... the Mexican food they brought my girlfriend didn't resemble Mexican food really. We live in New Mexico. And I've had better Mexican food in CA, TX, NM, NV, AZ, and actual Mexico... What was served to us at El Chato's was a sloppy, unsure mess of ingredients. They brought disgusting and trashy fake butter in a plastic squeeze bottle for my baked potato. I had coffee, (because I had to drive a long distance) and an hour before they closed, they threw out the pot of coffee and I was unable to get even one refill. The waitress disappeared for 15 minutes at a time. And we spent much of that time trying to flag her down to get some condiments, of which were not anywhere on the table. Yes the place was relatively clean. But that was about it. The food and the service were horrible. I will say it again, one of the worst places I have ever been. Note: We were very polite and did not complain. I know that there are people that get bad service because they are jerks to the staff. And if that is the case, jerks deserve bad service. But we were completely nice, no complaints, just rolling with it.
