Lantana Grill & Bar
Reviews
This is a tale of two reviews really: breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is ok, but pricy for what you get. I opted for the buffet and had some rather good omelets stuffed with meat and cheese and cooked fairly well. The ingredients themselves don't quite match the scale of the price, but it's not bad at all. I enjoyed the buffet for two... but at a price of $50 for both of us, it's a bit much. Dinner on the other hand was horrendous. The buffet seemed more appetizing than the menu, and they served various BBQ. Lo and behold, it's some of the worst BBQ I've ever had, and this is in Texas no less. The brisket was painful: covered in sauce (an abomination in my book, even more so when the sauce is terrible), rather dry meat, utterly bland (tried some with almost no sauce), no seasoning, no smoke flavor (though the room was filled with smoke), and way too tough. The brisket was a joke. The ribs didn't fare much better with the only real flavor and moisture being the sauce. The sauce itself tasted like overcooked tomato paste. That's about it. The chicken was actually good, and had a lot of flavor and juiciness. I skipped everything else on the menu and just ate the chicken. The dessert bar had German chocolate cake, apple pie, and key lime pie. The key lime pie was not what I was expecting and didn't really have any sort of homemade taste. The apple pie was better, but the crust was hard not crunchy and the apples weren't as sweet as I would have expected. The chocolate cake was a bit dry and the icing tasted like it was made from cheaper chocolate - i.e. Hershey's chocolate chips. In short, I was not impressed in the slightest with this restaurant. The quality did not match that of the resort, and the prices are outrageous for what was offered. Personally, I think the whole kitchen should be fired and replaced with people that know what good food is and how to make it.
I just ate the shrimp and risotto. If this meal had been labeled as shrimp and rice it would have been mediocre. I'm sorry, but this is not risotto. I was raised in the south and it does not qualify. The shrimp was flavorless but decent, tomatoes sour and the five pieces of arugula may have been the best part. I had to send back the first serving, which I have never even thought about before, because the rice was crunchy. Maybe rice can be somewhat hard if you are serving something labeled as RICE, not risotto. I'm thoroughly disappointed. Although this is a hotel restaurant I expect a little more in $21 worth of food. My boyfriend's steak was very good though. His mashed potatoes were mildly warm and carrots as well. We also had shrimp and grits which was pretty decent. Not the best, but decent as an appetizer. We ordered three drinks between us and they were surprisingly inexpensive considering the wine menu list. I won't eat here again but if you're stuck at the hotel during an apocalyptic disaster then fine, you won't go hungry. I'd for sure only feel safe ordering the steak though.
