Independence Coffee Co

The pecan flavored coffee, which is their flagship brand is quite good and I think that anyone who enjoys flavored coffees will like it. But I would not stray far from their signature beverage. I am something of a coffee purist and I frequent the local Houston roasters that take an artisanal approach to coffee roasting. Instead of roasting to a particular color, they go deeper and experiment with the best flavor profile and that sometimes means a lighter roast. It can even vary from the same estate's spring versus fall crops. My experience with Independence is that they tend to over roast to a color profile. This is what some in the industry refer to as a "bold" roast. It can also be a catch phrase when one does mass roastings for a large market. A less meaningful term for me as "bold" roasts tend to taste burned to me. If it is a dark bean, with oils on the exterior, it has probably been over roasted. If it smells like burning tires, it has probably been over roasted. Hence, not a fan.

Had an iced latte at the HEB location. Portafilter basket rinsed under cold tap water. Then cold portafilter used for extra shot. Bitter drink. Keep the baskets hot, at least on top of machine. Rinse with group head water. Not even meeting espresso 101.

Stopped by the downtown Brenham coffee shop on a HOT summer day. I got one of the absolute best frapuccinos that I've ever had! Delicious and refreshing!!

Madalyn's Backyard Pecan is one of my favorite coffees of all time. I can't go back to Texas without picking up a couple pounds of this stuff. The flavor is full and earthy, but tastes nothing like a flavored coffee...

I buy it at the HEB in Sienna Plantation and they were out of the Backyard Pecan, so I bought the Guatemalian and Antigua blend. THE BEST COFFEE EVER!
