Gettysburg Ghost Tours
Reviews
I agree with the recent post that this was a waste of a "ghost tour." In our hour tour we went to the 3 spots all within 1 block of the shop where the tour tickets are sold. At each stop was a story with minimal ghost relation. This was the "Black Cat" tour that lists several stops. It looked good, and the tour guide was enthusiastic, but this is probably not worth the $16 we spent anticipating sites that were spookier.
I went on the Black Cat Tour with our tour guide, "Dr. Phil" who was extremely enthusiastic and entertaining. He was very knowledgeable in the war, town, history, ghost stories and ghost hunting. I'm not overly interested in history (ironic since I was visiting Gettysburg..lol) but he made it interesting the whole time, telling stories and making it all relatable. It does list on the website the many different locations you *could* visit, but doesn't say you're only going to visit 3-4 of them. Which was, ok, because it lasted a little over an hour and heard many stories where we did go. I understand you can't get to all of them in an hour and hear all the stories, just suggesting they clarify that you'll only hit 3-4 of the ones listed. It would have been nice to know exactly where we were going before buying the tickets in case we overlapped a few locations we might have already seen on another tour. It was ironic and made us laugh when as the tour guide was explaining one story in front of a cemetery a black cat walked out of the cemetery, down the grass a little ways, then into a bush...lol Who's to say it was really a cat?! Was it just coincidence that we were on the "black cat" tour?! LOL He walked us through actually "debunking" one of the ghost stories, which I found interesting and gave more credibility to him in my mind. The group of us did start to hear what sounded like shots and cannons and someone asked if everyone else heard that. He replied, "oh yeah, well, you're in Gettysburg!" LOL Someone else asked if it could be re-enactors or fireworks, he said re-enactors aren't allowed to shoot that late, but did say he didn't know of fireworks going on, but it could be. The fact that he didn't just say "no, it's not fireworks, it's the ghost guns" again made me appreciate his respect to "debunking" but letting us come up with our own conclusions. (I'm also a part of a ghost team, so it may be I noticed different things than most people would...lol) He handled the subject of tips very graciously at the end. He explained their income is similar to waiters, and it's appreciated, but not required. He placed his hat down and asked if we choose to tip, feel free to leave it in the hat and he'll walk away so he's not staring us down or anything and we don't feel obligated. If you plan on any ghost tour, please remember, ghosts aren't on the payroll and you're not going to be guaranteed to see/feel/hear anything. Just enjoy the ambiance, the stories, the history and maybe you might happen to capture or witness something. Great job, Dr Phil! Thanks for the entertaining evening, despite the light drizzle!
Fun. Good civil war info
If you're going to do this, the best way to do it is to do the ghost hunt. We went to the Hoffman Mansion tonight and it was a great experience. I was slightly skeptical because of all the fighting going back and forward between them and the place down the street on reviews here. However, I decided to bite the bullet and see what it would be like. Our night started out slow but eventually we started getting readings from the devices we had and had a great time. If you're going to do any place in Gettysburg for a ghost tour, do this one.
Felt like it was a waste of time. Guide was adding to many personal anecdotes about things. Only looked at an alley, garage, and a restaurant in an hour tour.
