Rogue Ales Bayfront Public House
Reviews

The Public House has been my family's favorite place to get lunch and dinner in Newport for years. The first road trip that my wife and I took together was to Newport and we came in to the Public House to get a beer and dinner. While we were there, we got to play a wonderful game of trivia with the rest of the bar, the beer was the best, and the service was fantastic. We just stayed in the Bed and Beer, which are rooms for rent above the bar for our 7th anniversary this weekend and the experience has been exactly what we expected. Great room. Great service. Great food. Great beer. Joy, the bar tender, and Rob, the manager (I believe), have made us feel super welcome during our stay and we will certainly be making this a new tradition for our anniversary get aways.

My husband and I came across the Rouge Brewery on a trip to newport for our anniversary. We love to visit pubs and try different beers, however we would not recommend this place to anyone we know. It started when we were sat in a corner and given our menus. About 10 minutes later we were given a free taste test of a beer they had on tap and he said he would be right back to take our order. It was about another 10 minutes before we were waited on. While we were waiting there was one table in front of us that had been waiting longer than we had been there just to pay their bill. Finally he comes back to take our order we ordered two beers, a pizza and a BLT. While our order was being taken there was a couple that was sat right next to us and the same guy took their order and left, about 5 minutes later a female waitress came to re-take their order saying that the other guy had to take a phone call and she wanted to make sure he got everything. After she was done talking to them she stopped and asked us what we had because at this point we had no beer, no water and no silver wear. We told her our beers and she said ok thanks and left, not thinking to ask her about our food order because the other man had taken. So she brings us our beers and we think finally were on the right track. WRONG…the table next to us got their beers and their food and my husband and I were still sitting there with empty beer glasses. A different waiter stops by and asks us if we would like another round of beer, and my husband said I would like to know if my food order has been put in. The waiter walks over to the computer shakes his head and says "nope, doesn't look like it" at this point we have been there for a half hour and had one beer brought to us. So needless to say we paid for our two beers at $6 bucks a piece, and come to find out the guy that was helping us at the beginning of our experience is the manager. He failed to bring us our drinks and he failed to put in our food order. If you ever stop by newport don't stop by the rouge brewery…you'll be severely disappointed.

Great beer, good food, and great beer.

My boyfriend and I came upon Rogue when we took a mini get away to Newport in the summer of 2012. We loved the atmosphere, and the free beer samples were great. Since then we have given them the benefit of the doubt, and gone back 3 times. Each time more disappointing than the last. We order (what is one of our FAVORITE pizzas) the captains pizza, with the exceptions of onions as I cant eat them. The waitress brought us our pizza, after waiting nearly 45 minutes (and about starving by the time it got there!). I took one big bite full of onions. We told the waitress, she apologized and said she would have them make another pizza. She even brought us a basket of fries to help us in the waiting as they were very busy that night. Once she brought the second pizza, it was yet again covered with onions. It was clear at this point the task of leaving them off was far too difficult for the cooks, so i decided I just wouldnt eat. When she returned and saw me sitting, she asked what was wrong. We tried to laugh it off and say it still had onions but it wasnt a big deal, we would take the pizza. She looked over at me with frustration and in a snotty tone asked "What would you like me to do about it?". I was pretty upset, hungry and disappointed in the service we received as we had to pay for our pizza anyways. A few months went by, and we returned, to give it one more shot. This time during lunch hour. Our waiter sat us down at the table and told us they were too busy to serve pizza. We chuckled and explained to him we had driven two hours for their pizza specifically as my boyfriend was very fond of it. He looked at the two of us and said "I dont know what to tell you. You can leave." So we did just that. I know it sounds crazy, but we went back a third time. People have bad days, we're all human. We figured there was no way we could get a bad experience the THIRD time. This time much to our surprise, our waitress was friendly and fun. We were sitting next to a group of older people who also werent satisfied with their food once it arrived. We got the pizza we ordered, without the onions and we had almost thought we had died and gone to heaven. But -- the waitress "accidentally" pressed small when putting in our order, instead of the large we ordered. She told us not to worry, we could have the small, and our original order would be out soon. We were definitely thinking this made up for all the previous times we had visited. Much to our surprise she returned with another small pizza, made correctly. She told us that was their way of compensating for her mistake. I dont want to complain too much, but 2 small pizzas ends up coming out be about half of the size of a large pizza. Do the math. She in turn made us pay for the large, and we only received half of the pizza. Now if you ask me, she admitted fault, and told us she would bring us our order, the way we ordered it. Why we should have to compensate for her mistake is beyond me. We should have been given our LARGE pizza that we ordered. Not two smalls that makes up half the food. Needless to say, I will not be returning to another Rogue brewery anywhere. They have to have the most incompetent people working at any given place. Two VERY dissatisfied, repeated customers. We are normal people, who understand mistakes happen and no one is perfect. But enough is enough.

Crappy service, we decided to come in to this restaurant because they offered an assortment of options for everyone. We asked upon entering if they had any outdoor seating. The waiter then tossed the menus down and then said he would check in a
