Nonna's Trattoria
Reviews
I recently had dinner at Nonna's. A really nice experience. The Veal Marcella was excellent. My friend's dish was equally well prepared. Service was quick and courteous. The restaurant interior is a bit low key but we ate out on the patio and it was a very lovely setting. I would go back at any opportunity.
This place has fake reviews. I walked in and should have walked out. The place looked updated outside but was really old and run down on the inside. The old rug smell was so bad I asked to sit outside. The service was terrible, the poor girl looked embarrassed to work there. Really gave this place a chance, I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs cause I didn't think you can really mess that up. Literally the worst meatball I ever tasted, if you can call it that. It was bread mixed with meat. You should not have to use a knife on meatballs. There was about half a cup of pasta water in the bowl rendering the pasta tasteless. The young lady comes by and asked how everything was and I explained. She said oh sorry, and that's pretty much it. Literally the worst dining experience ever. I got severe indigestion from what I ate. The next day my client asked where I ate and they cringed. I really want trust reviews but they let me down in this case. I guess if Nonnas paid more attention to reviews then they did to their actual establishment.
This is an older tavern style family restaurant in Geneva, with both inside & outside (rear patio) seating. Our party of four started with some fresh vegetable appetizers which were quite different & quite good.....sautéed Italian pole beans with garlic & onions; sautéed hot peppers (the long ones) stuffed with soft cheese. Entrees were a different story.....I had a broiled fish ("barramundi"?) which was described as a type of sea bass....I thought it was quite good. Wife ordered a veal marsala which she described as "veal boiled in the pasta sauce" & not good at all. Living in NJ as we do, we know good classic Italian cooking & this veal marsala was not it. The owner (Tony?) was very apologetic & took the item off our bill. I don't remember what our friends had ordered, but they were satisfied with their meals. So....I would go back to Nonna's, but order carefully.
We had a very pleasant dinner out on the deck. The surroundings and service were excellent and the food good. I especially recommend the manicotti.
Nonna's has great food, excellent staff and one of the best lunch buffets around!!! Highly recommended :)
