The Gin Mill
Reviews
Absolutely my favorite place in Eville. Great food, 20+ consistently rotating beers on tap (and the most ornate PBR tap you'll ever see), and even better music. I can't recommend the place highly enough. Ellicottville is a ski village growing almost as fast as it possibly can, and because of this there are a bevy of choices for your food and drink dollar. While each restaurant in town seemingly continues to try to transition their menu to offer more and more high $20 and $30 entrees, The Gin Mill just soldiers on producing great food night in and night out. I cannot think of another place where you can go get a good craft beer, dinner, and an appetizer for a table of two for under $30. Combine the dinner and drinks with the fact that they have live music almost every night AND NO COVER EVER and I don't know why you'd bother going anywhere else.
The Gin Mill burger was tasty and a great value - that's a magic combo in my books. I thought the place had a good vibe and a nice selection of beers on tap. One waitress was working the whole place and she worked hard. Respect.
I haven't seen too many places with such a range of reviews -- from loved it to hated it. We liked it very much. My wife and I went there on a Saturday night. We got 3 appetizers total and 2 drinks each. Beer selection great. Martinis great. House fries great. Onion rings and Buffalo wings good. Service friendly and very, very good, even though it was Labor Day Weekend with a live band and the joint was crowded. Though we were done eating and just nursing our drinks and listening to the band, the waitress encouraged us to keep our table. Crowd seemed to be mixture of locals and tourists. Overall, unpretentious, welcoming and a lot of fun. Drinks, food and attitude were way above average for a place of this nature; namely, a beer & burger bar with live music.
Worst food and customer service I have ever had anywhere in my life. Our waitress was named Carla. She refused to split our check and ignored our table after verbally assaulting a member of the party for making a comment about the quality of service to a friend also sitting at the table. SO UNPROFESSIONAL! The waitress was 10 ft away from the table when the member at the table said "I wish we had a better waitress." It was a personal conversation and was NOT directed towards the waitress, it was a personal conversation within TWO individuals sitting at this table. However, when she over overheard the comment she started verbally attacking members of the table and refused to serve our table any longer. To top it off. Every member of the table who ordered chicken got severe food poisoning. Worst dinner of my life! Wings taste like plastic!
We had terrible service, and the food looked like it was all from the freezer and simply microwaved or deep fried
