Gatehouse Tavern

We were overall disappointed with the level of service and food quality. The fried pickles were good, however the entrees came out cold (most likely not the kitchen's fault). The waitstaff attire was a little too informal-jeans, baseball cap on backwards, with dirty kitchen rag hanging out of back pocket. The impression was that they were busy setting up for the Karaoke jam session, not customers dining in. Did I mention the drinking outdoors on the front picnic tables. This is truly a TAVERN, a watering hole if you will. If you want to drink and sing, you're at the right place.
Really liked this place! We came in to watch our favorite team play the first game of the season. (ROLL TIDE :) There's lots of tv's and one really large projection TV which we sat in front of. The game audio was playing in surround sound and even played at the tables out front (which was nice for me because I smoke) The place was very clean and the food was out standing! The grilled wings and fried pickles were Incredible. They took the time to make us feel really welcome. We recommend them and will definitely be back!!
Tonight was our first time going to this place to celebrated our friend, David William's birthday. The food was good, the beer was good and the help was very responsive. I got the Tuna Salad and enjoyed it very much. Also had a room that can support over 60 people for a party.
I hope and pray that it was an off night for them, but quite honestly I had the absolute worst dining experience in years here. Bad service, bad food (the calamari tasted like it was breaded with funnel cake batter), no silverware, no glasses provided with our beers. We had to ask for everything and it was grudgingly brought to us, or not at all and our requests were ignored. I'll go back sometime in the future after the staff and management have had a time to rotate out to some other place to ignore their customers. But it will be a long while before I retest the waters.
The hostess or owner waiting at the door seemed a little anxious for clientele. The meal felt pushed due to no one being in the restaurant and the teatotalers loudly at the bar next door. The BBQ chicken was great, beans great, twice smashed great. The Shepard's Pie should be Shepard's soup (too much gravy). Beer a little overpriced by 50 to 75 cents. I know it is a tough market now due to economy, but the owner/hostess needs to let things flow more naturally.
