Salty Caper
Reviews
Really wanted to like this place because so many locals rave about it. The pizza taste okay, but the crust is chewy, over-priced and slightly bland. Our pizza had something white on it, which I thought was flour, nope, it was sweet, so I'm guessing powder sugar? I know they serve pizza desserts and assumed that is where it came from, but it was just gross. My husband likes brick oven pizza so I ordered take out for him a few times. They are always SO rude on the phone, never friendly, talk to you like you are bothering them, never a "thank you". Definitely not a family place to eat, very few tables, even saw a few couples standing and eating because they had no room. Who serves food without a table? The couple didn't look happy. This is a great place for college/young people to go and socialize and drink I guess, seems that is mostly who like it and who is always there. Won't be back, and won't recommend unless they change. A lot.
Good pizza and the sauce was amazing, but my mouth was begging for more toppings. Neat atmosphere (the brick oven smells amazing) and people are right about it not being kid friendly, but this place was not meant to be. Be prepared to wait. If you go order some fried breadsticks to eat while you wait!
Excellent alternative for good bar food and good beer. Nice atmosphere and good barkeeps
Heard good things from locals and stopped by on the way through town. Rude manager with unprofessional attitude, appearance, and behavior. Definitely not a family friendly place after the sun goes down. The food is simple, bland, and overpriced.
So, I approached our visit to the Salty Caper with some trepidation, as previous reviews were mixed. But we thoroughly enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and drinks. The pizzas were great. Crust was excellent, toppings too. The beer selection was well-curated and diverse. The service was attentive and friendly and we look forward to coming back as soon as we can. However, in keeping with the well-worn tradition of including elements in restaurant reviews that actually have nothing to do with the restaurant and the food itself, we have included the following critical observations and petty complaints: - the table rocked, liked back and forth... Not, like, "this rocks!" - one member of our party wanted to charge their phone, but another member of the party was using the charging cable. - The children were confused by the beer menu - it was cloudy - the proscription against walking on the grass really hampered our patio dining experience - when we dropped out styrofoam cup, it broke. - they let us order too much food - AND, at the end of the night there was a bill. Despite these quibbles and cavils, the restaurant is great. A real gem and we will definitely be back.
