There aren't many sit down restaurants in this area, mostly fast food but Carteret Cafe is by far the best around. The food is fresh and amazing. The staff are awesome and friendly. The prices are very affordable. I go there often and have never had a bad experience and I can't say that for many places. If you haven't eaten there yet it is definitely worth trying.....I'm sure you won't be disappointed!! There is a wait at busy times to be seated but the food comes out fast and it is worth the wait!! Love the fritters!!!!

Wow, did this place surprise us! It doesn't look like much, driving by. Frankly, the inside doesn't really blow you away either - they haven't broken the bank on decorating, but it's homey and clean. Then you start talking to the people that work there. Every single person (and 5 different employees spoke to us) was friendly, personable, funny and working hard. The food was absolutely great! I had the Carteret omelet - super fresh shrimp, fresh exotic mushrooms, fluffy eggs - I'm getting hungry remembering. My husband had seafood and thought it was the best he'd had in a while. We have a place a mile away - and we'll be back frequently, hoping that nothing changes other than maybe a fresh coat of paint.
