Horn's Gaslight Bar & Restaurant
Reviews

We go to Horn's Bar every 2 years. This last time was the worst experience yet. A waitress from another table came up and told me to put my drink away. Because I was not allowed to bring it in. That wasn't exactly the problem, how she did it was the problem. She walked up, got an inch away from my face (I know some of you think I'm exaggerating, but I'm not at all), scared me doing that, and very rude and meanly told me to put it away (She also had really bad breath). I was going to put it on the ground, but she pointed her finger at my bag so sternly and said "In your bag", like I was her 2 year being punished. I have to say I was very tempted to look at her and say no. The people at my table looked at her to tell her she does not have the right to treat me that way. And she walked away acting like she was the queen of the place. As we were finishing our meal fast, she kept giving me the evil eye, every 5 minutes. On top of that every year we go there, the food quality has gone down tremendously, along with their staff. I remember back 7 years ago when the food was amazing and cheap and staff was the best; which is how they got such good name, but I have to say that no longer applies. We will never be going back there again. Stay as far away from there as possible. This is not the first time she has been like this!

We dropped into Horn's for a quick drink before going on the island horse-drawn tour. I asked Ernie the bartender (great guy) if he could make a Scarlett O'Hara. Although he hadn't heard of it he dug through his bartender's guides to see if he could find it. We had to leave but promised to drop back in after our tour. As soon as we walked in he recognized us but had been unable to find a recipe. This wasn't surprising because this drink was popular in the late 50's and early 60's. I told him the ingredients and he put together a highly acceptable drink. Don't miss Horn's and say hi to Ernie.

A few of us were in Mackinac Island this past weekend and for dinner one night we went to Horn's Gas Light Bar and Restaurant. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was great, we didn't have to wait for a table to open up. It was ALMOST perfect! The only thing preventing it from being perfect was our waitress. It was the worst service I've ever gotten in my entire life. Having worked with the restaurant business for years, I'm usually pretty lenient when it comes to service (maybe their having a bad day, maybe their swamped, etc.) but this was outright horrendous! Our waitresses name was Kasey and she came to our table 3 times the entire hour and a half we were there. She took our drink and food order, dropped off the check (someone else brought our food and cleared our plates), and picked up the check. No refills, no boxes (we had to ask a different waitress for a box because Kasey completely ignored us asking for it), no checking to see if we needed anything else. Now, because I'm so lenient, when I got the check, I still gave her a pretty decent tip. I left the money with the receipt and Kasey was more than willing to come back to our table to GET HER MONEY! She took the check and money and walked away without saying a word. She never returned. I was appalled. How dare she? She didn't ask if we needed change or even if we needed boxes. I will never go back to Horn's because of her service. That makes me so sad because it was such a great place, but I can no longer support a restaurant that hires such rude and disrespectful people.

GREAT place to hang. Lots of locals. Fun foods. Watch everything go by. Take a rest. Get geared up for the rest of the day and great evening!!!

Best Chicken Chili EVER!!
