LJ's&The Kat Lounge
Reviews
One of Hagerstown best. Everything is done with elegance and style. The food was prepare and cooked to perfection. I loved my experiences each time I have gone.
Grossly overpriced, for the sole purpose of making those who can afford it feel good about themselves. For the rest of us, including those of us who unpretentiously enjoy the finer things in life, we are better off going elsewhere or just staying at home. (I must admit, this is based on only one visit. But so be it.)
We love LJ's! We are spoiled because it is right around the corner for us. It is a great place for a special occasion. In fact, we use them to cater our open houses at the office. Catering from LJ's brings a special something besides just the food.
Perfect dining experience. It seems rare these days to be able to exit a restaurant and be able to say that they succeeded at every little nuance that makes or breaks a night out. But LJ's and the Kat did just that for us. It started with the ease of reservations through Open Table .com which allowed us to book online and even make a change with no fuss or muss. God bless the internet. The parking lot was full but we were able to easily park on the street under a light. We were seated in the bar for 10 mins to wait for our table - which was available right on time (we were early). Everyone was extremely polite and nice. Let me stop here and harp on this point for a moment. I mean EVERYONE was extremely nice and polite - actually excited to serve us - all night. I'm from the Midwest and i don't want to spit in the face of any eastern seaboard states; however y'all service ain't so friendly all the time. But now we have hope don't we? Here in sleepy little Hagerstown is a small seed of politeness, decorum, and respect for the art of fine dining. We've dined around the world and I would rate the service here as second to none. We ordered the vegetable bisque (poured over a chunk of duck confit tableside) - excellent but doesn't that disqualify the vegetable bisque name? Endive salad was a nice surprise - it's not green. Cheese platter was fantastic...simply because...there was exactly enough crostini to match the cheese on the plate. You know I'm right - it sucks when you either have too much cheese or too much bread. The sweetbreads were excellent - well prepared with the right combinations of sauces. Entrees were the tuna and the NY strip - the steak was fantastic. It was SMOKED to prepare it for the grill. That actually gave it a pork-like taste. Amazing and should be tried by any self-respecting beef lover. Coffee and dessert was fantabulous. Order the chocolate something – upside down chocolate cake with pineapples on the bottom served on a plate laced with peanut butter and chocolate drizzle. So good. That’s all folks. Oh wait, the restrooms were sparkling clean with real cloth towels. And while I was waiting at the bar for someone to get my coat (and honestly I just asked someone, anyone with a restaurant uniform and they CHEERFULLY retrieved my jacket), the bartender asked me how dinner was and what did I order? I went through the whole sequence of what we ordered and she listened attentively and with interest. My wife walked right past and when I caught up with her she was like where were you and I was like I was telling the bartender what we ate. Laugh laugh laugh. Love this place. I got big points for choosing this place for our anniversary dinner. Cheers to all of you.
I travel to Hagerstown on business many times a year, but I never had the pleasure of dining at LJ's and The Kat Lounge. My previous ho-hum dining experiences included various franchise-caliber eateries that can best be described as "unfortunate". Not so this night. LJ's is a breath of fresh air! The decor is upscale and chic, with a centrally located kitchen in full view of the main dining room. Some of the table seating areas are over-stuffed sofas, with lots of pillows. Whimsical. Well, on to the food... The menu is small and tasteful, with very interesting selections. The appetizers and entrees are creative and fresh. I opted for the T-Bone, which was absolutely the best cooked steak I have had in years. Oh, and the fresh bread and butter is yummy (one of my pet peeves is expensive restaurants that serve previously frozen bread). My waiter was efficient and friendly, and knowledgable of the menu. How I love professional waiters! Speaking of expensive, LJ's is not cheap, but if you want to get a meal for under $20, you should head for Outback or Western Sizzler. I highly recommend LJ's and I will definitely go back next time I am in Hagerstown.
