Used to really like this place. The food isn't good anymore, even the chips were awful, the actual restaurant has like 3 different radio stations playing in different parts of the restaurant plus televisions with the sound on, and the crappy lighting strobes. So you have the multiple radio stations, televisions, kitchen noise, then all the customers trying to talk over this mess while the lighting strobes, and then the food isn't as good as taco bell. The service was good though

Its Taco Bell taste with Mezcal prices! The portion sizes are not good, Quesadillas for $9.99 and all you get is 6 small triangles and nothing more. You could get full at Taco Bell cheaper to be honest. The deco is cheap and tacky, I guess what you would expect for a low end authentic Mexican restaurant. The Margaritas are good but overpriced and the glass is chuck full of ice. Honestly, I live about 30 seconds away from this place and would drive anywhere else to get Mexican. If they improve their prices and/or portion sizes they would be good, but otherwise don't bother! Overpriced, just okay tasting food!
I have one major requirement of restaurants; they must be clean. Mexicali was absolutely filthy from the get go. I had an early dinner with my mom and I couldn't believe how dirty it was. There were uncleared plates on a couple tables. There was an absolutely filthy napkin or two under our table that were used to keep it level. The floors and chairs had crumbs all over them and the windows at our table were beyond grimy. I didn't go there expecting great food, just something easy but I do expected to be attended to somewhat adequately. I don't expect to have to get my own napkins and silverware (never provided) or go get a refill of water at the bar after asking my server and not having it filled. Please don't construe this as nit picky as I have worked in the restaurant business for well over a decade and cleanliness is THE most important thing of a restaurant. Not a fan and won't be back.
Good Mexican food that is at a good price. One of my favorite places to eat in the Worcester area.
