LongHorn Steakhouse

I have received excellent service at other Longhorn restaurants except for the one in Elizabethtown, KY. There was a group of 6 for my mothers birthday, we had reservations and arrived at 7pm. My father's asparagus was forgotten not once, but twice and when received it was under cooked and too tough to eat. I had informed the waiter it was my mother's birthday when he took our drink order and he completely forgot about it. I reminded him at the end of the meal and we all waited a very long time. We finally told him to forget it and he said it was coming right out. It did not. We waited some more and received a to go box of ice cream and chocolate syrup??? If that wasn't enough, he charged my parents twice(rang it up twice) for their meal. They didn't realize this until the next day. I didn't notify the manager of the worst service imaginable because I didn't want to make a scene during my mothers birthday dinner.
My wife and I visited the restaurant Friday Aug 2nd 2013 around 4pm to beat the dinner crowd. It had been awhile since either of us had eaten a steak. We've tended to shy away from red meat the past few years and most of the old steakhouses are now "all you can eat" buffets. The atmosphere of an "all you can eat" buffet is best likened to being caught in a stampede of rude obnoxious obese slack jawed Troglodytes who have been unsuccessful in their hunting gathering endeavors the past several weeks. Steam tables in the midst of a riot. Our visit to LongHorn was most enjoyable. There was no wait (take note of the time) for a table. Wait staff was personable and very attentive. Though I'd already made up my mind what I intended to have I intentionally asked our waitress for her recommendation to test her knowledge and honesty. She was very knowledgeable on the different cuts of meat available and suggested her favorite based upon my desire for a flavorful cut above other considerations. I had a New York strip medium rare and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived at the table grilled to perfection and in only about ten minutes. The steak appeared to have been seared after the application of a rub that hinted of Italian seasonings. Though there was a pronounced flavor of oregano it was not overpowering and, though surprised at the choice of herbs, found it contributed to a very flavorful seasoning mix. As a word of warning to those who cannot deal with any type of pepper the seasoning mix for the rub did seem to include a fair amount of cracked black pepper that, though I enjoyed the "bite" it added to the rub, others may find overwhelming. It may behoove those with sensitive pallets to ask for a sample of the rub to taste prior to ordering to avoid disappointment. It was fairly spicy but I found it very enjoyable. As we dined the manager visited the table to assure our satisfaction with our meal and the service. An added touch that was a welcome reminder of yesteryear when devotion to service and quality separated good restaurants from the greasy spoons. Overall, our visit was most enjoyable made so by stellar service and excellent food. The cherry on top was the cost. Considering what we ate the cost was very reasonable. Salads, drinks and the higher end cuts (no room for dessert) was around fifty dollars for my wife and I. As a consummate cheapskate I will attest to the value against the cost being well worth the modest price. My wife was first to suggest that we return again soon which was her, never before heard, stamp of approval. If you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, a tasty steak and good value for the money you spend I highly recommend a visit to LongHorn Steakhouse.

Shaved prime rib sandwich was terrible, fire corn on the cob was served without toppings from the cook(manager corrected as he checked the order),my order was cold and I picked it up 6 minutes before it was to be ready.Kitchen needs to learn to take pride in the job.Time to tweak your program management.
