Radina's Coffeehouse & Roastery
Reviews
I write this review with a heavy heart as I spent two years living in Manhattan before taking the time to write a review. The issue with Radina's is not the quality of the food and coffee (both are above average), but rather their refusal to actually stock and sell the coffee beans they roast. They advertise themselves as a roastery", which would imply that they want to sell their locally roasted coffee beans to the Manhattan public. Let me tell you that they do not. What coffee beans you do manage to buy are priced about 30% higher than Starbucks. If you spend time visiting their locations, to include their main store, you will find large burlap sacks of roasted coffee behind the counter, yet only a few 1 pound bags of coffee for sale up front, and rarely more than that. At their satellite locations...more of the same. Visiting their main location today, probably filled with over 100 customers and about a dozen staff working, they only had about 10 bags of one type of coffee for sale, and that's it. Attempts to get staff to restock or sell other varieties clearly available behind the counter were greeted with a firm "no". This charade has been going on for years and is nothing new at Radina's. This only leaves me to conclude they are doing everything they can to sell you their coffee by the cup (obviously a higher profit margin) as opposed to allowing you to buy it by the bag. They should stop advertising themselves as a roaster and just stick with the restaurant/coffeehouse label, which they seem to do well with. If you want to buy coffee by the bag, I suggest going to Starbucks instead. You will actually be able to always buy the coffee you want, freshly roasted, and at a cheaper price than Radina's.
The sandwiches at Radina's on the Hill used to be excellent, especially the mushroom brie melt. They've changed the menu and are using new bread and ingredients that unfortunately aren't very good, in fact the last two sandwiches I ordered were inedible. The bread was tough and dry and the fillings were tasteless. I probably won't go back except for the coffee. The wait staff was lovely and the place is well kept. I like to patronize local businesses. But the menu was better before they "improved " it. I hope they go back to tasty instead of trendy.
Great coffee and great atmosphere. Really couldn't ask for more.
The service is always good. I do wish the tables and chairs were wiped a bit more. And also, please change the music once in a while.
Best cafe in town. I come here for the atmosphere and the awesome customer service. There's a microwave available so you can heat items to a temp that YOU like, plenty of syrups and silverware on hand, and the service people are always super-friendly. I'm not a coffee drinker, though I hear it's the best in town...but I give this place a top rating for the gelato and handy selection of quiche, tarts, cake, and pastries. Definitely among the best for a quick snack to quell your tummy rumbles.
