Great place to go for a date night or just a great meal. They have excellent speciality drinks, and a decent wine list. The menu changes periodically too, so they're always coming up with new and exciting things. We typically go on Saturday and ask to sit in the back "wine bar" area where it seems to be a little bit quieter, cooler (temperature wise), and I don't like being too close to the fire. Plus, our favorite server, Amy, is back there. She's the best! Downside - I understand that the theme is important, and it's really neat, but the giant 4 sided fireplace makes for a hot interior and you ALWAYS end up smelling like a camp fire when you leave. I always have to dress in something that I have no problem washing right when I get home, and I try not to have freshly washed hair when I go. Ladies, you know what I mean.
They offer burgers that are labeled as Kobe Beef with roughly a nine dollar price point. If this doesn't tip you off that you are not being served actual Kobe beef, then do some homework and educate yourself about this product that is scarce even in Japan. Tajima-gyu is the only one that can legally be labelled as Kobe beef. In America, most Japanese cattle have been cross bred with our domestic livestock to maintain a traditional texture, taste, and to reduce cost. No Kobe beef was shipped to the U.S. until November of 2012. In 2013, the U.S. received only 17 head of Kobe beef. That same year the U.S. produced 29,300,000 head of beef cattle. Most beef labeled Kobe in America is counterfeit. The Turf Room "Kobe" burgers taste good, they are just improperly labeled.
My best friend and I had gone for the first time yesterday and I'm not sure if it was b/c we are both African American but we both felt like we weren't being helped and the service was poor. We were sat in the back next to the kitchen door so we would see waiters and waitresses coming and going but we rarely saw our own. Every time we would stop someone for help they would go get our waiter and we'd have to continue to wait. My friend asked for a side of ranch when our food came out and our server finally brought when she was finished w/her food. The drinks were expensive and weren't even very good. The Margarita Flatbread was pretty tasty, but we agreed we wouldn't be coming back.
This place Rox !! Staff was very well informed and the food was very good. The drinks were visually stunning.
Nothing worst than showing up to your anniversary dinner with your significant other and finding out they don't have your reservation! Well, unless you're fortunate enough to come across Tammy at The Turf Room. I have never gone from so upset to overly satisfied so quickly. Tammy found us a reserved table in the bar to enjoy some appetizers and drinks while they sorted us a table. No sooner did we finish our small appetizer and drink and our very romantic table was ready for us. Everyone who visited our table was extremely kind and wished us a happy anniversary. We were greeted by a glass of champagne and comped a chef's tasting plate, which was delicious as well as an awesome bread pudding. Now I absolutely do not write this review because we were given these item gratis. I want everyone there, and anyone who read this to know how above and beyond Tammy went to make our experience unforgettable. THANK YOU SO MUCH TAMMY!!!!!! I manage a high-line automotive retailer and am always looking for exceptional service. Tammy and the staff at the Turf room should be compliment on their attention to over deliver on customer service! Well done! Oh, by the way the food was great too! :)
