I have trouble working out a rating, but 3 stars is all I can give. The food was 5 star quality - we had meat loaf and this, the mashed potato and other sides were excellent, real "home made" quality, all served "family style" But I have to reduce the stars for 3 other issues; First, we had never been there before, so we waited, were seated, and waited for our waitress talked to us we found out there were no menus, only the things on the wall posters - we were happy with the food, but there should have been something on the way in to tell us what sort of restaurant it was. Second, when the sides were put on our table, a bottle was placed there too. After we had eaten the biscuits we found out this was apple butter, and so we didn't get a chance t try it with the bread - all it would have taken was an explanation! Third, only when we got to pay did we find out they only took cash or checks. I wondered if we had missed a sign, but I checked the way out, no, there is NO indication that they only take cash! I might understand that in an out-of-the way diner, but somewhere that advertises on the Interstate? And why not tell us before we eat? Now I think about it, all 3 of my negatives are really about communicating with their diners - shame when the food is so good!

The food was okay, but the coffee and pie is amazing and the service is first rate! Wonderful. I have never liked black coffee but I had some with my chocolate pie and I never wanted either to end. The potatoes, biscuits and apple butter were pretty delicious too.

I would rate this cafe 4 stars. We all loved our lunches which consisted of pork tenderloin, real mashed potatoes, green beans, roast turkey with dressing, pulled pork, baked beans, the very best ham and bean soup and salad. We got the coconut and cherry pies which were to die for. The service was exceptional and we found the rates very reasonable. $7.95 for main entree with two sides. You can't beat that especially because it's home cooked. Very good. We all loved it and the clean atmosphere. A little surprised that it is cash only or check but I suppose that keeps their cost down. We will return. I wish I had their ham and bean soup recipe!

Best chicken and dumplings ever! They have them on the weekend and I look forward to stopping every time I'm in the area.
