Wellman's Pub and Rooftop
Reviews
Went to watch the semi-finals of the Big 12 tourament wearing our KU gear. Was treated awefully by the host, the bar tender, and the wait staff because of what we were wearing. They advertise they will have every game of the NCAA tourament on. No thanks, not until you folks figure out how to act like adults when someone from another school besides Iowa shows up to watch a game. Lived in Kansas for over 25 years. We would attend The 810 Zone for all Pro and college sports. Folks from every team would show up to support their guys. It was a great atmosphere where everyone was treated great. I'll take my money and school pride somewhere else. Rock Chalk!
The rooftop is awesome in the summer. I'm not impressed with the main restaurant though, the high ceiling and music can make it very tough to have a conversation in the evenings when I've been there.
Ok bar but won't see me again. Owner must be racist or the the door guy is cus I was wearing a baltimore orioles fitted and I had to take it off in order to get in. Keep in mind I had on a black american eagle v-neck, reef flip flops and american eagle khaki shorts...get the picture? Bouncer said either bend the brim or take it off. I take it off, go inside and see 3-4 other white males with fitted flat brimmed hats on. One was a hurley hat and the others were sport teams fitteds like mine. Black people stay away cus someone in the ownership is racist...so sad for such a nice place physically.
This spring we received a "welcome to the neighborhood" mailer from this pub, we bring in the mailer and they turn it into a VIP card good for 10% off for the rest of the year. We decided to go Fri the 20th June, 2014. We gave the mailer to our server, Kenzie, who was wonderful at her job. Three of us had 8 drinks, and nachos. When we got the check, it was not itemized, only a total, which she told us was their policy, but she could get an itemized one for us, and did. Imagine that there was a mistake and we were overcharged, which they corrected, but the 10% had not been applied, so she took it back, and had to get the manager, who apparently was the owners son, to correct and apply it. I asked how we got the VIP card, and when she asked said manager, he tore up the mailer, and told her it was a mistake, and was only good for one time. She asked for him to speak to us, and he refused, told her that was her job. I always hear that restaurants want to know when there is a problem so they can fix it before they get a bad review, hard to do when the manager won't speak to you. We only live a half mile away, such a shame that we will never be back, wonder how many other people get ripped off by not having an itemized bill as well....
Primarily, there service was subpar. Our waitress essentially ignored our party the entire time which was especially sad because there were only maybe 12 other parties total. There loaded Wellman's chips were okay but lacked ingredients advertised. Combined with lacking service, I wouldn't return.
