Cholo's Homestyle Mexican
Reviews
I wouldn't call this "Homestyle Mexican". The food lacks flavor and seems to be canned or frozen. Our table ordered nachos, which came back as chips with microwaved shredded cheese. The enchiladas were bland, and the tortillas were almost impossible to cut with the fork. The margaritas weren't anything out of this world. The frozen ones were like drinking colored tequila, and had no flavor. Margaritas on the rocks were drenched with tequila. If anyone were to open a decent Mexican restaurant, it would put this one out of business. I gave 2 stars, because the service was the only good thing about this place.
I am rating this place 5 star solely for the FOOD! The food was AH-mazing! The service would have been better if there had been more waiters on duty. It was so crowded that the experience was sorta crap, but the awesome food made it all worth while. I need to visit on a week day perhaps ;)
Love the decor, its just really far to get there and you wish you were surrounded by Mexicans but you're not. You almost feel like going pancho villa when you see the prices. Yes we don't have the land to make cheap mexican food that requires fresh herbs and spices, but the do honor mexican restaurant decorating taste and its just fun. The fact they glorify cholos is awesome. Lol
The salsa was delicious, tasted homemade. The food was good, portions were generous. The tequila recommended by the bartender was very good :)
Excellent food. Great price. Wonderful atmosphere. If you want good mexican food, definitely visit Cholo's in Haleiwa, HI-North Shore
