The French Market and Tavern
Reviews
Yesterday was my first, and probably last, visit here. I went for lunch. In my opinion, $40 for 2 people for lunch is too much. The person I was dining with had chicken fingers & fries ($11) and I had a shrimp sandwich with veggies ($13). We both had tea to drink. (I did get dessert to go, which was $5.95). The food was pretty good. The shrimp sandwich I had was full of flavor, just pretty small. I was impressed with the veggies - it was zucchini and squash, and they did a great job on seasoning them (normally when you get veggies, they are pretty plain). The service left something to be desired. I had to wait 10 minutes for someone to refill my tea (and the glasses are not the normal tall big glasses like you see in some places; these were smaller water glass type glasses). Since both the sandwich & veggies were a little on the spicy side, it would have bene nice to have the tea refilled a little quicker. The waiter seemed rushed & not attentive at all. When he brought the bill, I had my card out & ready & put it on the tray, but he said he would be right back instead of just taking it. Rather disappointed with the experience overall.
In short, it is not productive to do reviews based solely on aesthetics and atmosphere...it is a peripheral specification for comparison when everything else is held constant (food, service, etc). Quite surprised by the 4 star rating. My experience within last 10 days, Dinner time: Service: 2/5, hard working server, but a since of acceptance, almost justification of all other issues. Kind of "if you don't like it go somewhere else" kind of demeanor. Lack or organization, not knowing who got what in terms of sides etc. We waited 1.5hrs from sitting down to receiving entrée (6 people) Food: 2/5, certainly not linear compared to pricing. No issue with $35 steak, you just want a $35 steak rather than a $12.95 steak. Sides tasted as if they were rushed or heated up in a microwave style oven. Advertised dinner special was sold out when we arrived around 6:30pm. Quite limited menu, and unless I misread the style, if Cajun is the focus, some of the staples (Jambalaya, Po'boys) are not on the menu at all. Bottom line, I have paid less for much better food, service and atmosphere. This was my second time at the French Market and unfortunately results were similar.
Love this place. We plan our trips from Tampa to Atlanta to allow for supper at French Market. Excellent food and service. Cannot recommend more highly! The shrimp and grits are wonderful. ❤️
Came in for lunch, maybe dinner is better. Had the reuben, came out with no sourkraut... Waitress brought me some... In a bowl... Which I had to apply to my sandwich. It had 2slices of meat. So I paid 11.95for a thin sandwich that I had to build half of. So, the bill is $14.18....i give $20 and get 5 1's back. Now, I get rounding up... But thats. 82 cents... Almost a dollar. Just tacky I think. So, nice looking place... But.. Ehhhhh
Came through this town on business. Looked through restaurants online and this one looked good plus it had four stars. Service was good, atmosphere charming, food is awful, and VERY overpriced. I pay good money for good food all the time $16.00 for a hamburger doesn't bother me unless the burger tastes plain and has soggy bread. I also don't mind buying a Prime Rib for $27.00 unless it is sliced like a breakfast steak at Waffle House, and has less flavor. Nothing was good about the food. Jambalaya, all rice and steaming hot from the microwave, Rib-eye was cold, sixteen dollar burger tasteless and soggy. My business associate and I won't be back. The fact that this place has four stars shows how bad the food must be around here.
