Old Tavernier Restaurant & Lounge
Reviews

I would give it no stars if I could! Stay away from this restaurant unless you like to be condescended when you order, and overcharged for poorly prepared food. I should have trusted the poor reviews and kept driving. I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to spare other potential customers the time and expense. The negative reviews are absolutely accurate and not overstated for this restaurant. On our way home from Key West we had hoped to stop for one last seafood meal and we were really disappointed. Keep in mind I am from Hawaii, and I have experienced excellent fresh seafood and I am more than happy to pay a premium for great quality, but...when I asked our waitress if I could have my Ahi Tuna appetizer cooked to order she said she would have to charge me for the entree rather than the appetizer and began a lecture about how it is prepared as if I had never ordered Ahi in my life, when on the contrary I've ordered it around the world to order and never heard such a ridiculously pompous explanation in all my years!!! This nonsense continued with each item I inquired about. Ultimately I decided that I would order soup and avoid the frustration and even that was a disappointment, two varieties of vegetables (zucchini and carrots) in a Tabasco broth does not a minestrone soup make. The entree my husband ordered, Shrimp Scampi was worse, and the entree my daughter ordered worse still. The shrimp was over cooked, the rice was some variety of Uncle Ben's Instant rice and the scallops were drowned in a bland, thick cream sauce.

Nice place on the water 2nd story. Great spot if your looking for something better than a cheeseburger in the keys. Ask to sit out back.

Sure we would've loved the food (this is a lie) if we'd had a chance to order. Were seated on the patio and a gentleman brought us water and menus. Then proceeded to wait for 20 minutes for a server to come to our table and at least take a drink order. None came. Two different servers checked on their tables on either side of us, twice, and also acknowledged our presence with a smile and/or hello, but never stopped to wait on our table, or ask "Have you been helped" or anything to that effect. Didn't help that on our way out the hostess gave a very half-hearted "Oh I'm so sorry," to our backs as I explained to her we were never waited on

I took my wife and family there for our anniversary. The food was delicious and the service was great. We had both seafood and meats and they were very flavorful. We'd recommend this place for anyone.

I was with a birthday party and had a wonderful time. Dawn was an exceptional server and bartender. I liked the beef tips and espresso martinis the best. Our takeout is always great. We usually sit at the bar, the restaurant section is very nice also.
