Sweet Melissa's Cafe

Best meal on our 2 weeks trip in Florida. Delicious tuna, quiet and excellent service, nice atmosphere. We sat in the cosy outside area well sheltered from mosquitoes.
Not sure what all the hype is about with this restaurant. We had dinner on Monday Feb 24 and it was a disaster. There must have been an issue in the restaurant that day as the atmosphere was unhappy and unwelcoming among all the staff - we all felt this and remarked separately on it later..our server was obviously not properly trained and could not put an accurate bill together after 3 tries. The food was not great - the steaks were not cooked as requested, the shrimp appetizer was mediocre at best and the pompano special was unimpressive. When the wine was delivered to the table, another server said she was not expecting to pour the wine?? really?? Then who pours it? Would not recommend this restaurant - had the ambiance of a Perkins and the food as well.
We enjoyed Sweet Melissa for dinner on a Friday night. The service, live music, and especially the food were all absolutely superb. Very unique, thoughtful flavor combinations. Only downside, the atmosphere inside (new location) could use improvement. The ceiling is low and covered yucky popcorn stuff. The art is very Sanibel, so it's alright, but just doesn't fit the high quality of the food. Never the less, we plan to return to sweet melissa's for the incredible culinary experience every year from now on. Highly recommended!
Fabulous spot with a friendly upscale environment and delicious food. The tuna and watermelon appetizer special was perfect, as was the mixed green salad - large with goat cheese, nuts and lightly cooked pears. Scallop entre was delicious. In all, a very nice casual upscale restaurant in an island of downscale fish joints and bars.
Such a nice atmosphere and romantic. Waiter was very helpful and friendly. The food was so amazing, definitely worth the price. Luckily they offer half portions if you want to save a little. I had the specials, a diver scallop with corn soup and arctic char. Nice cocktails and great tasting bread!
