The Mercedes guy was an idiot. I mean he spent eighty grand for a thirty grand car, right? Whatmore can I say?
Always a good place to pass by and grab some snacks if you're going through the delta maze.
I had a set of chains installed on my rear-wheel drive 2003 Mercedes CLK500, just a mile west of the chain control checkpoint. My right wheel chain came off about .5 a mile after installation, so I turned around and went back to Strawberry Market, which charged me for another chain ($32.48) and off I went. About 10 miles after chain control (Near Sierra at Tahoe turn-off), the chain on the other tire shifted so that the chain was half way on, half way off. When I pullled over, my brake fluid warning came on requesting I see a workshop immediately. I had no way of continuing, so I had to call my insurance to have a tow, since I had no brakes to go back down the hill or over the Echo Summit into South Lake Tahoe. After my repair, the Midas shop manager told me both brake lines had been severed due to Chain Installation, one from the initial install where the chain came off and the other when the chain shifted. This was a very expensive chain ordeal and I recommend stay as far away from Strawberry Market for your chain installation.
I have purchased tire chains from Strawberry Market and I've had my own chains put on by the guys at Strawberry Market and I will never go anywhere else for tire chains. They know what they're doing. In fact, our first trip over highway 50 we saw that chains were required so we pulled in to the Market. After asking what type of car we were driving they told us the all wheel drive we had rented wouldn't need chains on it. They could have used our inexperience against us and simply sold us chains. That's a class act.
Had my chains installed here last storm. Great job, no problems. And love those wasabi peanuts. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm hooked.
