This was my second experience with Melvyn's Restaurant with the first being much better. It appears the wait staff is getting tired and just goes through the motions... Though there is plenty of room in this establishment one of the rooms was closed off and everyone was packed into the front half. The wait staff had a hard time getting around and every time they passed behind my chair they bumped into it. Rather annoying when you come to a restaurant of this caliber. Besides this the wait staff seemed to pay more attention to the people they knew. Though the menu is very extensive the food served was only okay. Sure didn't live up to what was considered one of the better restaurants in Palm Springs. The best part of the evening was the greeting from the Host when we arrived. I would not recommend this restaurant to out of town visitors, or locals unless they know someone on the wait staff. I would recommend the Management wake up the wait staff and counsel their attitudes.
If you want to get turned away from an elegant restaurant, wear a pair of dressy bermudas to Melvyn's......then hike on down to Billy Reed's - Billy is less discriminating, considerably less expensive and doesn't require reservations......
The only thing good about this restaurant is the location, the building, and the service. I had a tough pepper steak, my wife had tough veal, and our friend had a dry chicken breast. Find food elsewhere!
Have a nice drink at the nostalgic and old fashioned (read drab) bar, the go elsewhere to eat. Food was way over priced in poorly prepared.
