I am amazed that anyone could rate this place above 2 stars in terms of Mexican food. Our meals were nearly tasteless -- almost no seasoning. The kind of Mexican food one might get in, say, Maine. If you have any previous experience with Mexican food, even so-so chain restaurant US versions, you will be disappointed here. I can't believe this place can survive in CA -- maybe all the retirees and snowbirds who don't really know what Mexican food tastes like?
Excellent food, served hot with no delay. Very friendly staff. Just a quick note, it's a little difficult to find this place as it's on the back side of a fairly quiet "Mall" just off the highway. There is a sign that points to the back of the mall, but it's not readily apparent where Carmelita's is located. Carmelita's is located just around the corner behind the small Sheriff's office and well worth the search!
This is my first visit to Borrego springs and had lunch @ carmelitas and the service was far and beond excellent . Felt as if i was with family .so if your looking for family type of atmosphere then YOU MUST COME EAT HERE , enjoy by CUZ N MIKE
Enchilada was terrible... waitress was nice.
Been here 2 years ago and again today - certainly one of the best places to gather Mexican Food in California. And don't skip the Margaritas!
