Bright Star Restaurant
Reviews
The Bright Star has been our family's favorite restaurant for many decades. We always plan our special days there as well as weekly visits when possible. The food is outstanding and so many choices are excellently done. There is always a welcoming greeting as though they have been just waiting for us to arrive! When my friends invite me out to eat, they know where to take me as my first choice, The Bright Star! And I get to see many life-long friends there who experience the same appreciation of quality food, excellent service and a wonderful atmosphere. Can't say enough good about this fabulous restaurant!
My lunch experience was pleasant! Greek snapper is a sure fire entree, as are the snapper throats. Sides are the best of southern tradition. The Greek potato is a tasty exception. My daughter, who has issues with salt, found the broiled snapper to be a perfect solution since it never has added salt. The bread pudding is usually only available for evening meals, but on Valentine's Day it was. A delicious recipe!
We brought our guests from Denver to the Bright Star the night after Thanksgiving. It was a wonderful experience as usual and they were impressed that we have such a unique place in Birmingham! As usual, the food was delicious and our party of eight enjoyed the privacy of the little rooms at the back. The staff are always friendly, and efficient and never try to rush you out of the place! After appetizers and dinners, no one wanted dessert, but we did order two of my husband's favorite bourbon bread pudding to share. We have been regulars since 1977 and can't wait for our next visit!
Our go to for lunch at work when we have time. I recommend the seafood over most everything else. Greek salad with anchovies, fantastic gumbo. It is a fantastic treat in a relaxing old restaurant.
How does a restaurant survive in the same place with the same ownership for over 100 years? By being excellent in all aspects. The service is excellent, the food is always a treat (I like lunch the best because of all the home cooked vegetables), and I always feel welcome, even if it's almost closing time. The service is prompt, but you never feel rushed. A restaurant with true southern charm. One tip - order from the lunch menu at lunch. I noticed a review where the person was not happy. He ordered from the nighttime menu at lunch. Don't fight the system. You'll love it like I do.
