REM Eiland restaurant

Only go here for the view! Bad staff. Mediocre food. Everything went wrong. When I addressed all the problems to the waiters they said I had to talk to the owner. She turned out to be the rudest person ever! Unbelievable. Don't eat here. Ever.

This place is located in the north, on the top of an old oil platform, which gives a great industrial but modern ambience. It's a proper sit down place. Service and food are good, not exceptional, but good enough. Since it's located on the top of the platform it offers great views. It's a good experience in general.

The Sparkman and Stephens Association International, and specifically the S&S Association Netherlands, would like to take this opportunity to thank Management and Staff of the Rem Eiland Restaurant for their contribution to making the Annual General Meeting, 21 June 2014 to such a great success. The food was excellent, and the assistance and support of the entire crew was great! Thank you all so very much for making this event a memorable happening.... The REM island is something different for sure! Great food, good price, nice service and an insane location, an old sixties pirate radiostation that used to be 10 miles out of the coast of Noordwijk aan zee. Something else, you need to try :)

It's a bit of a (bicycle) ride from the center of Amsterdam, but on a not too cold sunny day the experience is well worth it: The restaurant is located in a former 'oil rig'-like platform (was actually built for radio- and tv-broadcasting from the North sea just outside the territory of the Netherlands), which stands at the end of a dock in the middle of the IJ water. It's nice to have drinks outside and walk around the platform to experience the industrial harbor views. The menu is limited to 2 or 4 choices per course, and vegetarians have to settle for whatever is the vegetarian main course. We were there with a party of seven, and although the starters came quickly after ordering, it took a while before the main course arrived. The food was flavorful and nice and sufficient, but not exceptional; the white wine was much better than the red wine (we simply ordered 'a bottle of white, and a bottle of red wine'), which says more about the red than the white wine; and deserts were fine—not too rich, not too ordinary, but a little bland.
