On Cedar Mountain in Lebanon Nouhad Wadi Haddad was born and the Arab world was about to become starstruck by the phenomenon famously known as Fayrouz. Fayrouz is a Lebanese diva that is widely considered to be the most famous living singer in the Arab world and one of the best known of all times, kids are named after her. Restaurants in the Middle-East, cafes in the west. And then a hookah lounge in Amsterdam. Fayrouz Lounge was not difficult to find. Located in the beautiful Oud-Zuid part of Amsterdam near the Stadionsquare, its always a vibrant and busy part of town. A hub for the locals and the seldom seen tourist - untill now. From the outstide a very anonymous spot that looks mysterious and seems to call-in the guests with the oriental interior and the eastern music comin out of the door. The decor was modern and from a different age. Playful, intimate, and still very 'gezellig' as the Dutch say. The colors and the way light is used is phenomenal and the ambiance is off this world. Comfortable and soothing. Fayrouz Lounge is the type of friend-run establishment where you are guaranteed to hear some stories. Weird stories, fun stories, local stories and tourists with their stories from all over the world. As I was told by the owner of the place, this part of town is not very touristic but the Fayrouz Lounge seems to be appealing to the backpacking youngsters from across the globe. The bar consist out of a main lounge with a bar. And a VIP-room in the back. The prices are modest and the wide variaty of hookahs and fillings are amazing. Making it a very pleasant hookah lounge, completing the whole experience is the Arab/Oriental soundsystem on which our ears feast. From lovely songs of Fayrouz to the hookahrockin modern sounds of Sharki music. Fayrouz Lounge was an interesting spot in the always vibrant Amsterdam that adds a new sensation to the already existing hookah lounges in Amsterdam and is a hot spot for locals as well as tourists.
