BEST WESTERN Centretown Goulburn

If youre travelling by, its an excellent place to rest

My wife and I stayed at the Best Western Centretown, Goulburn recently, during which time we ate in the motel’s dining room. My rump steak was tough and inedible and my wife’s kangaroo steak appeared to have been over-cooked. When I pointed out these concerns to the waiter, my own barely-touched meal was taken away to the kitchen and that was the last I heard of the matter. No further apology or response was forthcoming, so I was left to go hungry. I was even more annoyed the following morning when I discovered that the full price of the meal had been added to my account, again without any word of apology or explanation. I wrote to the owner/manager again to express my concerns, but did not receive the courtesy of a reply.

I stay quite frequently at this Best Western, i also travel around Australia for work. The resturant is excellent, the meals are top quality and value for money and the steak is the best in town period. The rooms are modern, clean and well fitted out. The staff are always friendly and helpful. I would highly reccomend this Best Western.

I have been here over 10 times and these were my true experiences On one Saturday when I was arriving bit late for check-in, I called the reception (female voice answered) and got a confirmation that I could order lunch (room service) till 3:30pm ~ 4:00pm But sadly when I ordered lunch at 2:55pm, receptionist (male voice) told me that I can’t order lunch as the chef is preparing to go out now!!! Either the reception people (D**** person) is clueless about what is happening or this is the worst place I have ever stayed a night! Few weeks after in October 2010, I was again forced to stay here due to a business trip and this was the experience then. The room given (100 series) did not have a proper table to have the room service meals and the enquiry as to where 2 people were supposed to eat meals in that room went unattended. (room did not have a table with 2 chairs!) The microwave oven in that room was so tiny you could not put a normal plate to heat it up! It’s difficult to sleep in the bed for a person taller than 6' The spa did not have a proper curtain to cover the glass that separated it from the bed/TV area (it has been removed and not replaced!) When I ordered lunch at 12pm, the male person at reception (D****) replied rudely, “we can’t take lunch orders now” and informed me that the chef will be there at around 3pm, so I have to order lunch only at that time!!! I imagine Best Western Centretown Goulburn forces all the people who come there to take lunch at that time! When I went to the reception and enquired directly, that fellow replied saying the chef would come only after 4pm!!! (earlier it was 3pm) And he could make something instead of chef which was only potato chips!!! and was not even humble enough to apologize for his stupid mistakes. This made me wonder if any one would even consider staying at this poorly managed place! And if the management is aware how poorly it is run! (at least they should have the courtesy to inform customers that they don’t have a chef for lunch, rather than being deceptive) When I went to the reception again for some other matter within 10mins (to get my access card enabled which the administration has foolishly locked out without checking that I was staying for 2 days), he again told that even after chef comes, she would not be able to prepare anything other than snacks!!! Now this was really too much even for a 2 star hotel & made me wonder if Best Western Centretown Goulburn was rated less than 2 stars!!! When I ordered a snack at 3:40 pm, I was given the “soup of the day” served on a plate!!! It had about175ml and was $10!!!! This was too salty and had to be thrown away!!! (maybe the ignorant receptionist made the soup!) This was delivered by a female staff person who was very grumpy and when I thanked her for bringing it she just mumbled something inaudible. I tried to order the only eatable item in the room service menu (Big western burger is the only eatable item in the very limited menu card I have ever seen) at 7pm, and was told by a female receptionist “that item is over and cannot be ordered for dinner”!!!! Forcing me choose either PIZZA or meals for children!!! As I have stayed at this place more than 10 times in the past, was familiar with the room service menu they had previously with a variety of items till few months back, now the food here is disgusting (very oily/cheesy and no taste at all!). Last year this place was full of customers and now only 2/3 people seemed to be staying. (D**** indicated they don’t get the chef to prepare lunch because only few people are staying now! making them starve for lunch with deceptive lies) These bad experiences made me write this to warn any other people not to suffer by staying at Best Western Centretown Goulburn!!!

My favourite place to stay in Goulburn. The rooms are lovely and modern (i think the newest & best in town) and the staff go the extra mile. I would recommend this to anyone travelling to Goulburn!!
