Zimzala

My wife and I have been to this restaurant many times for breakfasts, leisurely lunches and supper. Every visit has been most enjoyable: excellent food, wine and coffee. The high standard of courteous and efficient service by staff sets a new standard which most restaurants in the whole region can only aspire to. Some of the poor ratings I have just read, whilst understandable if customers were disappointed, come as a surprise to me. My wife and I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to others looking for high standards of service and superb food. Add the view across the beach, sand dunes and bay and this really is a special treat!
The owner of this restaurant would make Basil Fawlty proud with his arrogance & rudeness. We had to send back a meal because it was way too salty (everyone at the table tasted it & agreed) but he still expected us to pay for it & it's replacement dish! I asked how he could possibly expect us to pay for a dish we couldn't eat & he said because in his opinion the dish was fine & in his restaurant the customer was not always right - yes, he actually did say that! When I refused to pay anything until he removed it from the bill, he turned even nastier & told me to just hurry up with it & get out, he didn't need "my kind" in his restaurant. I have never been treated like this in a restaurant, this man is a pig. I posted my experience on Facebook & have been innundated with comments with similar stories to tell about the service there. They should change the name of the restaurant from Zimzala to "Like It Or Lump It"
Great restaurant, amazing few, fantastic food. Highly recommend!!
Booked a table for breakfast well in advance (using a Groupon voucher) and when I arrived, I was greeted with "oh we are not doing the voucher during school holidays because it gets EXTREMELY BUSY, but I will take you today alright !!" I was infuriated with their approach, and they had less than three table occupied for the whole time when we were dining. MOREOVER, not everyone in this world knows when school holidays fall; particularly if they don't have kids and they didn't do their schooling in Australia The quality of food and Coffee was poorer than those served in a mediocre food kiosk. They were anxious to take order and the food was delivered to the table within 5 minutes of order, it was obvious that they wanted us to eat and LEAVE!! It seems to me that the staff have completely misunderstood the concept of why people visit places like Cafe. I was there to have a good time; not just to EAT and solve my hunger issues. Anyway, the service was a total turn down. I was trying to find a cafe around Cronulla where I could go for coffee and breakfasts regularly. It's such a shame that businesses these days are not that keen towards longer term customer relationships.
My husband took me out to Zimzala for a surprise dinner. The view is amazing and the menue is very promising. Considering the high prices I think the portions could definitely be bigger, I was still hungry after my lemon and pea risotto which was very nice otherwise. Staff was friendly and the view is just beautiful. It was very busy the night we went and as it's not a spacious place hence I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who is looking for a bit of privacy. For everyone who likes a special location with ocean views, this is the place to go to.
