Always have enjoyed our visits to Las Trancas.
I have only had the carnitas. I keep going back just for that - best I've had. Salsa so-so. Rice so-so. Haven't had the beans.
Food is great, but this is absolutely the worst place to go for Cinco de Mayo. No music, no giveaways, no party atmosphere. It appeared they had not a clue of what to do. Very stone faced, appeared not to be ready for a crowd. Hopefully they will learn how to throw a party. Told them 3 times we had a birthday, and when they finally came, kept going to wrong person. Also, because it was Cinco, I called 4 hours in advance and asked for reservation for 12, arrived at appointed time, and no set ups ready.
This is the best Mexican restaurant in Charleston! We have eaten here countless times. There are meals that are amazing and ones that are so-so. I highly recommend the fajitas, burritos, chimichangas (sp?) and quesdillas. Everytime family from out of town visits they want to go to Las Trancas!
