I had only been in a few head shops before, but it was by far the worst experience I have had in one. I will not be going back, even though I don't frequent head shops more than a few times a year. Went there to buy a hookah as a gift for my brother in April 2014, having never used a hookah before I wasn't sure on what I needed for everything, I was the only person in the shop and it was still like pulling teeth to try to get some help. The staff wanted nothing more than to get me to leave as quickly as possible so they could get back to whatever "super important" conversation they were having. It was very difficult just asking basic questions on what equipment I would need, and even though I was buying almost $100 worth of stuff, they really didn't seem to care. They came across rather condescending about my ignorance on hookahs. (I mean yes, I am sure I asked a few dumb questions, but it almost seemed like they wanted me to feel bad about it like I was wasting their time, but I know thats not how you should treat a paying customer, thats basic "customer service 101") In just one instance she asked "if I had any coals" I said "no why?" she then kinda giggled and sneered and answered "well how are you planning to combust the shisha?" I said I thought "you use a lighter" and she openly laughed. I get it now that was a dumb thing to say. But I did tell her from the beginning that I knew almost nothing about hookahs, but regardless I found it rude. And It was almost as if she was mad at me and my lack of knowledge, or so it seemed to me. I don't know how they teach employees on how to deal with customers, but belittling, condescending, and making them feel stupid even if they are, is a terrible business model. They even lost my future business, after I used the hookah I bought from my brother, I decided to buy one for my self, but it wasn't from there. My brother recommended City News and so I bought one there. Their customer service isn't anything extraordinary, but it's at least what you expect good customer service to be. They were attentive, polite, and they were happy to answer any additional questions I had. Thats were I do my business now, even though like I said is infrequent. But its a shame, because if Discfunktion just treated me with the bare minimum of customer service and respect, I probably would still do business there because its closer to where I live than City News
I'm not sure how people are rating this store lowly. I go here very often and have never had a single bad experience. The staff is made of up very friendly people, who know a lot about what they sell and are very helpful explaining things. They are also very nonjudgmental towards people who don't know much about pipes and the like. They have a GREAT selection of local, handmade pipes that are generally very affordable. If you're paying over $35, you're getting a serious quality pipe here. They also have a great selection of hookahs, shisha, oil rigs, grinders, boxes, cases, anything you would want, really. They also just began stocking Juicy Jay's flavored rolling papers. Anybody who's had a bad experience here probably had it long ago with a staff member who is no longer there. This is my favorite smoke shop, and my friends and I almost exclusively stock ourselves with their products.
owner doesnt care about his custumers, only in it to make money. mean as a bitch. dip out to pipefitters in madison for some real glass.
I was the ONLY customer there at 3:30p.m. September 8, 2010. I asked for help with incense, but the rude staffer told me go look on the wall and if it wasn't there, it wasn't there. I then picked two types of cone incense and put them in the supplied plastic bags, but wanted to label them, so I could determine which I prefered and buy it again. I asked the clerk to borrow a pen. I reached for a "Sharpie" and he threw a ballpoint at me and told me not to use the Sharpie. He barked, "... Don't use that, they are expensive." In awe, I asked. "They're too expensive"? He said yes. I wanted the more permanent ink to label the clear plastic bag. He was so terribly rude, I simply turned around and walked out. I will never return. Incense isn't that hard to purchase. It is no wonder the place was empty.
Gone here for a few years now. Glass section is great. Staff has always been friendly and helpful
